i have unplugged the box and plugged in only one game and i still have the square....any idea where the closed caption may be found ...I have a "set-up" didn"t see it there, I have "customized settings" didn"t see it there and "advanced settings" didn"t see it there....I also have an RCA universal remote....no original....it helps somewhat for the menu...but no "CC" I tried a Comcast remote that didn't help either

This is a common problem, some how you have the closed caption on and turned to the text mode. So to fix this scoll through the tv's menu and find the closed caption and tur it back off

Good Day;

Sounds like you have the TV in the "close caption " mode (text), turn off. 2. Check batteries and the mode the remote is in; eg TV, VCR, Cable & ect. Good Luck, big IRISH.

Not exactly familiar with this model but sounds like the projector lamp is burned out. Hopefully it's a replaceable type. Try calling these people - http://www.purelandsupply.com

SOURCE: Mitsubishi WS-65611 Repair kit from TV-Repairkits.com no fix.....

I have a few ideas but they all will require some more information from you. I know these sets very well-if you fixed the convergence problem my hat is off to you--it can be a do it yourself job but not the most easy set to do it on.

Let me assume you adjusted the convergence in the customer mode--it does on any of the HD models have to be adjusted in the regular and then the HD modes.

The only other thing here that may be the problem is FOCUS. A simple way to determine this is to remove the back cover--turn the set on and call up the advanced convergence grid---then cover the lens for each tube one at a time--with red and blue lens covered are the lines in sharp focus or look blurry?

Repeat this with only red or blue not covered and see what you think--if one of the tubes is out of focus you will see it there--

There is also a TECH menu for adjusting the convergence-like the customer menu but it saves the adjustments into the set's memory--you will need to hit menu and a four digit code based on the actual model number of the set.

Check to see if focus is or is not your problem-easy to tell--green, red, blue lines will either be sharp or out of focus--if out ask and I will tell you the simple way to adjust that.

If this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

The TV is a Mitsubishi CS-26201C to the extent it matters and the remote is the original remote. A small child played with the remote and now a black square pops up and covers vitrtually the entire screen...

The child managed to press the button on the remote that controls closed-captioning, and now the TV is set for "text" mode. I don't remember if the button says "caption" or "cc", but it's one of those or something very similar. Press the button again to go through the settings until you get back to "off" and the box will be gone.

What's happening is that in text mode, the TV blacks out the area where the text would go. If there isn't any, the result is that mysterious black square. It may not show up at all on some channels, or only during some programs. It depends on whether captioning is being broadcast. Since many TV remotes have a single button to control caption settings, it's easy to get into this mode without realizing it. But it's easy to fix.

Hope this helps! Thanks for using Fixya.

How to fix TV

I have a large black square obscuring the picture. You can see the picture in 1 inch border around the black square. If I reset the input switch, the black square disappears for about one second (the picture is momentarily perfect) and the black square appears again. It is not the cable box because I wired the cable directly into the tv. The same thing happens when I try to play a DVD. Any insights????

Black screen

I work at at a school, and we had the same problem. Turns out, it a Closed Captioning problem.

We found the manual, and it states that "If a large black box covers 80% of your screen, the Text mode is probably set. Press 'Closed Caption' to turn it off." The "Closed Caption" button is on the remote. If you don't have the remote (as in our case), you can go to "Closed Caption" in the menu, and pick something like C4 and T4. That stopped the black box for us.

Repair of a Mitsubishi TS-4553 46" rear projection television

I checked out past posts on your forum and found the answer there. The TV is working great. I did have a bit of trouble finding the cc in the menu, but finally found it and the problem was solved by turning the cc off. Now I just have to make sure that they don't turn it back on!

Thank you!!!!!

Black square on screen

Seems that you have to go into setup and look at the Closed Captioned screen set up.
