Paper will not go through output rollers - jams at crumples

Paper feeds into the printer fine but will not turn enough to go through the output rollers at the top of the printer - it just jams and crumples. Just received this used printer from Amazon and it came like this. Was it maybe damaged in shipping and something that could be fixed with just a simple adjustment. I have looked at the rollers (are visible when you drop the back top door) but cannot see anything wrong.

It is jamming at the top of the printer (where the paper would come out - it is not feeding through the last roller at the top

  • aradcliffe May 15, 2009

You were correct - the top roller is not turning at all and that is why the paper is jamming - can I fix this and how can I fix this?

Ok, in this case you need do:
1) check the roller before the fuser and after it some roller old not enough firction and pressure balance
2) check the fuser press roller it could not has good tough to fuser surface, it should be no gap at all and good pressure balance on the fuser surface
3) check the fuser cleaner which maybe too dirty, or change new one if you have the parts.
4) fuser unit maybe too old if printing pagers over its life cycle

Have cleared paper jam and t/o printer but still indicates paper jam

Depending on the make and model of the machine any of the following may be your problem.
Check that the jammed sheet is complete and not torn or missing fragments. Any small piece can catch in a paper feed sensor and registers a paper jam. Check that the paper pickup rollers are "tacky" to touch and do not slip easily on the fingers. If your machine is duplex capable, check the duplexer tray. If it is a laser printer, remove and return the toner cartridge and re-check function. Check the fuser is clear and look for a crumpled sheet of paper leading to the fuser. If your machine will feed paper then reports a jam look along the leading edge for marks indicating where the jam may be occurring. If you have an inkjet machine, try feeding a strip of light card BACK through the paper feed path. Above all - be patient and work it through from the paper tray to the output tray one step at a time.

Second copy is crumpled

You need to isolated a problem.Verify the vertical conveyance feed and clean the feed rollers, verify the fusing unit and a duplex unit, and verify the exit unit.Stop the copy process before the paper enter in the fusing unit, and verify if the paper is crumpled or not.If is crumpled verify the paper tray rollers(casette feed rollers, vertical transport rollers). If not crumpled stop the proces after a half copy is out on the fusing unit.If crumpled change or clean the upper and lower fuser roller and the lower roller cleaning roller(aluminium roller)in the fusing unit.

Canon Inkjet, Not Printing?

Hi Rosa,
There was a paper jam and you cleared the jam, however you missed out to do one other thing. Cleaning the Rollers.

If the Paper Feed Roller is dirty or paper powder is attached to it, paper may not be fed properly.
In this case, clean the Paper Feed Roller. Cleaning will wear out the Paper Feed Roller, so perform this only when necessary.

You need to prepare: three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper

1.Make sure that the power is turned on, and remove any paper from the Rear Tray.

2.Open the Paper Output Tray gently, and open the Output Tray Extension.

3.Clean the Paper Feed Roller without paper.

(1) Press the g0081065_tcm14-774017.jpg (Maintenance) button repeatedly until b appears.

g0081066_tcm14-774018.png
(2) Press the Black or Color button.
The Paper Feed Roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

4.Clean the Paper Feed Roller with paper.
(1) Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller has stopped rotating, and load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray.
(2) Make sure that b appears on the LED, then press the Black or Color button.
The machine starts cleaning. The cleaning will be completed after the paper is ejected.

This should fix the issue

Toshiba 2860.. auto doc feeder keeps jamming.. seems like one side is feeing and other had side isnt or something similar. Any ideasa?

In any doc feeder, the initial two feed rollers and one paper separator pad/roller handle most of the paper transportation. So usually if you have misfeeds, and the paper is not crumpling up, you have a problem with worn or dirty feed rollers. However, if the paper is getting crumpled up, you most likely have a physical obstruction blocking the paper path. My recommendation for when this happens is to take a thick piece of card stock and manually feed it through the paper path on the doc feeder, this usually acts to unclog any jammed paper bits or debris.

Paper get jammed in the automatic feeder on top of my printer

3 possibilities.
1 If you use this macine to copy labels, there may well be a small piece of a label stuck in the paper path on the crumpled side. Or a small bit of paper.
2, the paper pickup on the crumpled side is 'polished', and no longer feeding the paper at the same time as the uncrumpled side. They can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Though that is a temporary fix and the paper pickups should be replaced if cleaning fixes the issue.
3 The fuser film has a tear in it on the crumpled side you need to rule out 1 & 2 before going to three again replaceable but a bit more difficult

Printer wont feed paper says out of paper

you "may" have something stuck on one of the feed rollers - a ripped piece of paper or something. See if you can examine the rollers, and look very carefully, particularly on the side that the paper keeps jamming.

In all honesty though, printers are pretty disposable these days. They're not worth getting fixed, and if you can't do quick maintenance on them, getting a new one is your best solution.

Paper feed problem

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Good luck...
