I have this same problem- When I use the zoom in/out the icon blinks and it doesn't zoom. The icon also blinks when I hit the 'flower' at 3 o'clock on the button, the round one on the back that has the timer at the bottom. My camera will not focus and I am wondering if it is due to this? I do not have the paperwork on this camera. I have this same problem- When I use the zoom in/out the icon blinks and it doesn't zoom. Um... there really wasn't much in the way of software that came with the camera, actually I don't know if I ever installed any of it. I remember installing a driver on my old windows 98 computer, but XP and Vista detect it automatically and automatically open the standard windows application. You need to describe what the icon under the battery looks like as I know of a few that appear there. Whenever you adjust the zoom it automatically brings up a zoom bar under the battery.

Reset the Camera and check if it helps to resolve the issue.(Resetting the Camera will reset the settings of the Camera to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camera).
The RESET button is located inside the battery/ Memory Stick cover. The Camera should be switched ON when you reset the unit. Press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.
Option 2:
If issue persists try Power reset the Camera by removing the battery from the Camera and inserting it after 1 minute.
Use a fully charged Battery in the Camera so that the Zoom function work normally.
Sounds like the CCD has developed a fault. I had a F717 which had similar faults but this turned out to be a batch of faulty CCD's which I know the F707 shared. This maybe why Sony are not keen to get involved as it will cost them money. JVC had a similar problem with some of it's Camcorders using a similar CCD and they replaced them FOC even those well out of warranty. Keep trying with Sony and mention the CCD and serial number of the F707 and see if it is one of the faulty batch.
I did the same thing. What I found out was that it's very important to charge a lithium battery completely on the first use. You probably took it off the charger too soon. If it's not completely charged on the first use it won't be able to hold any charge.
Sadly, I ended up having to buy another one and try again.
Sorry.
I also bought an aftermarket battery for my F707 on Ebay and got the same "for info...." message. I contacted the seller and they sent me a new one and it worked, don't see a way around it.
This same thing happend to me awhile back. Camera seem to be dead for several weeks until one day I tried turning on and then off the night vision. The was the usual click inside the camera and all was well after that. I still use the camera.
I bought a Lexar 256MB, since the F707 can't use PRO or anything about 128mb, it has two 128mb on one stick. There's a switch on the stick to change it when the first 128mb is full.
