Murray Lawn Mower won't go in gear

I have a Murray riding lawn mower. Something happened last night when parking it, and now I can't get it to go into gear. I can press theclutch in, but it's difficult, and when I let it out, the enginesqueals and won't go in gear. It starts fine, and the mower deckworks. I tried putting the engine in gear a few times, and it wouldjust lurch forward, but then immediately squeal. When I press theclutch in, it doesn't have any effect on the drive belt at all, unlikeit should ...

This happened once before and a friend unloosened something that was locked up, but I don't remember what he did.

How would I find the model number of the mower? Why does the mower deck have anything to do with this problem? The mower deck works fine, but it's when I let out the clutch that all $*$*$*$ breaks loose and it's noisy, and I smell a bit of burning - the drive belt I assume. The clutch is much much harder to push in now. Is there a good diagram that shows if there is something wrong with the clutch or whatever is supposed to happen to make the mower go into gear?

Used riding lawn mowers
Used riding lawn mowers are mainly meant for bigger lawns so that the cutting process should be done effectively and efficiently.

Hello:

>>From your Description it Sounds like the Clutch Idler Pulley Bearing have Seized and the Idler Pulley cannot/is not Turning and the Squeal is the Belt Dragging Across the Pulley.
>>Just because there is No Smoke Does Not mean the Belt is Not Slipping.
>>I Suggest you Remove the Deck and Check All the Pulleys and Especially the Clutch Idler and Idler Arm Bracket.
>>You can View a Breakdown of this Mower At this Site Addy; http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Lookup. Select the Model Tab. Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers (). Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Now Select Sectional View. Now Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View.
>>If the Above Site Does Not have your Unit Listed; Let me Know. I hae 2 Other Sites that have Older and Newer Units Listed.
Please, Do Not Hesitate, If I Missed Something or you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance.
Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Be Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck

Respectfully

Will an older 42 inch murray riding lawn mower deck interchange with an older rally riding lawn mower deck ?

Mower decks are very specific to the tractor. Unless it was the same manufactured mower, and just branded differently, then not likely! Belts are your next problem as even an inch longer or shorter will cause problems.
