Why don't you ask a clear question? Why make us guess?
Are we supposed to know that P is the perimeter? That the figure is a rectangle?
L= length, W=width, P=perimeter= 2(L+W)
W=L-24
P=2(L+W)=2(L+L-24)=228
2L-24=228/2=114
2L=114-24=90
L=90/2=45
W=L-24=45-24=21
L=45 ft, W=21 ft

SOURCE: The area of a rectangle is 660 yards. The length is 14 yards less than 2 times its width. What is the length?

Area =Length*width =L*W=660
Length=L=-14 +2*W
(2W-14)*W=660
2W^2-14W=660 Quadratic equation
Simplify by 2
W^2-7W-330=0
Factor the left hand side or use the quadratic formula
Factoring
W^2-7W-330=(W+15)(W-22)=0
A product is =0 if any of its factors is = 0
Thus you can have
W+15 =0 -------> W=-15 Discard it : a length cannot be negative
W-22=0 ---------> W= 22
Length L= -14 +2*22=44-14=30 yd
Check: area = 30*22 = 660 yd^2
Checks OK
L=22 yds

Mrs Wilson's garden was a length of 7 meters and 42 square meters she now wants to garden 4 times as wide and length 9 meters what is width of last years garden and what about this year

L x W = area so 42 / 7 = 6. 6 is last years garden width

6 x 4 is 24 NEW width and she added 2 for the length
24 times 9 new area is 216 square meters.

250ftx15ft, how many cubic ft.?

Not enough information to answer. For AREA, you multiply length times width and get square feet. For VOLUME you multiply length times width times height and get cubic feet. You need a third value to calculate cubic feet.

1904 sq feet how do I convert this to linear feet for roofing

sq feet is the length of the material multiplied by the width of the material. Linear feet is just the length of the material. So ,because roofing material is measured in the length measurement ( the width is pre-set coverage) if you are paying for a sheet that is 20ft long and covers 3ft you will be paying for 20 linear ft
IF you buy 4 x 20 ft sheets you will be be paying for 4 sheets and they will cover an area of 240 sq ft ( each sheet covers 60 sq ft so 4 sheets =240 sqft
to get the answer to your question you will have to know the length of the sheet and the width so that the area covered by a sheet can be known
Assuming that it is a roof area you want to cover, measure the length of the sheet required to cover the length of span ( gutter to ridge cap) and the width of the roof ( front to back) and divide that by the width of a sheet will give you the number of sheets required. Now multiply that number of sheets by the length of 1 sheet will give you the linear ft of the area to be covered.

P=228 width is 24 ft less than the length

Say length is x.
Width is x-24.
Perimeter is length plus width plus length plus width = 228.
x + (x-24) + x + (x-24) = 228
4x-48 = 228
4x=276
x=69
length = 69
width = 69-24= 45

check: 45 + 69 + 45 + 69 = 228

A toolbox is 2ft. high and its width is 3ft. less than its lenght. if its volume is 80ft.

We find volume by using V = H*W*L , where H = height , W = width, and L = length. You say H = 2 ft,
V = 80 ft ^3, and W = L - 3 . Put all of these back onto the equation and we will have
80 = 2 * (L - 3) * L . We can condense this to be 80 = (2*L - 2*3 ) * L then becomes 80 = 2*L*L - 2*3*L
simplifying this we get 40 = L*L - 3*L . This is also 40 = L * (L - 3) this is a quadratic equation, meaning that
we will get two answers for L. In this case L = 0 and L = 3. Since 0 ft would mean that the tool box doesn't
have a length we will use L = 3. We can now put this back into our original equation to find out what the
width is. 80 = 2 * W * 3, this is 80/6 = W = 13.3333 . Now we know that W = 13.3333 and L = 3.

In algebra formula,,,,carpeting cost $20.00 sq. yd you carpet a room that has a width of 15 ft, for $ 800.00 ,,what is the lenght of the room

Here is the Solution:

1. Convert 15 ft into yards. 1 yard = 3 feet
=> 15 ft = 5 yd

2. Find the area of the given room. The cost for given room is given, and cost for carpeting 1 sq. yd is given. So,
800/20 = 40 {i.e. 40 sq. yd (area of the given room)}

3. Now, Length * Width = Area
=> x * 5 = 40 [Taking Length = x yd]
=> x = 40/5
=> x = 8 yd
=> x = 8 * 3 ft
=> x = 24 ft

So, Length of the given room is 24 ft (8yd).

I hope this solved your problem (in time).
