Unable to download through usb

I cannot get my canon powershot sd750 to download images through the USB cable.  I've tried three different cables, none of which have worked.  I can download or upload fine with a different camera as well as my cellphone, so I don't think the problem is my computer.  I'm able to download photos through my card reader but would really like to be able to use the USB.

I have the exact same problem. It worked fine thirty minutes ago and when I tried to connect my camera to my computer with the USB cable again, it didn't work. I've tried several computers and I believe it's either the USB cable or my camera..

    I have a new Canon SD750.

I installed the S/W from the attached disk.
I connect it to the PC using the USB.

    I turn on the camera.

Now it should open a popup menu, but nothing happens.

Same problem here as well, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software several times as we as deleting the USB off of the device manager and letting windows reinstall it. I would prefer not to buy a card reader and am contemplating returning the camera.

I've used my USB several times with no problem. Now when I plug the camera to my computer the camera turns off automatically before the software begins to run. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software with no luck.

I had the same problem and realized that my computer wasn't recognizing my camera. I went through my device manager and looked under portable devices, I could see that my camera had an error in its driver, so I right clicked on my camera and uninstalled the driver for my camera, and unplugged and plugged my camera back in. It instantly recognized my camera and reinstalled the driver.

In the same boat as above...used to work without issue, then today the camera was visible in "My Computer" view, but the CameraWindow application wouldn't start.

I just got it to work by:
- going into the properties for the camera in windows explorer (right clicking, select "properties")
- goto "Events" tab
- ensure "Start Program" action is selected and set to "Canon CameraWindow" (my action was set to "Prompt for which...")

Hope this helps

Is the camera being recognised by your computer, and have you checked your camera settings and that your memory card doesn't have the lock switch locked so that you can't take images off of the card?

Hallo, I have a Canon SD750 ELPH and have enjoyed using it for a couple of years. I had no trouble uploading pictures to my PC with a USB Cable. Yesterday, I took some pics (which I can view easily on the...

Skip the cable, software and so on.
Get a card reader/writer. They are not very expensive, and can be bought at most stores such as Walmart, Walgreens, Officemax, Radioshack, and so on.
No software is necessary and the camera does not need to be used at all. Simply put the card in the reader and copy all files to the computer.

For some reason the computer cannot find or recognise my camera and keeps saying communication error ?

Ok. there're three possible causes for this. I'll list them and the relevant procedures of resolution by probability of occurrence.
  1. Damaged data cable- (confirmed if the following 2 doesn't fix the problem) if this is the case, you need to get a new cable.
  2. Damaged USB port on computer- Confirm by trying to connect cam to a different port (i.e.- try the rear ports if you were using one on the front) or to a different computer. If this is the case, you need to get a USB expansion card that will give your computer some extra USB ports.
  3. Damage on camera's side (could range from a simple broken port tab to circuit damage) confirm by: connecting a different camera to your computer using the same data cable. If this is the case you will have to take the camera to where you bought it from for repair (remember to check whether you can still claim your warranty.)

Canon PC1045/PowerShot A300 I need an Owner's Manual and a USB cable. I need an Owner's Manual and a USB Cable.

You can download a manual and order a USB cable from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8775

Before you buy another USB cable, consider this: The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

This question comes up several times a day here in the camera section at Fixya. But please note, it's very hard to troubleshoot individual software problems online, and it likely is a software/driver issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place?

Please don't take the following as a sales pitch as it's not, but please see this link, as it describes the use of an inexpensive card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue.

You may have a defective USB cable. Try a different cable, or try plugging the cable into a different USB plug on your computer. If neither of these work, the camera may have a defective USB plug on the camera. Double check that the camera is turned on. If all else fails, you can copy the photo files by removing the memory card from the camera and putting it in a card reader built into your computer, your printer, or use a separate memory card reader. You can buy them at most camera and computer stores - they are inexpensive, usually less than $20.

How to transer the images and records from memory card to pc?

OK, LET ME SEE IF I CAN EXPLAIN THIS FOR YOU. TO TRANSFER YOUR IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA OR MEMORY CARD YOU NEED EITHER A CABLE TO CONNECT YOUR CAMERA TO A USB PORT OF YOUR COMPUTER. IF YOUR COMPUTER HAS MEMORY CARD SLOTS, YOU CAN ENTER YOUR CARD DIRECTLY TO YOUR COMPUTER. I ALSO HAVE A WEBSITE FOR YOU THAT YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE MANUAL FOR YOUR CAMERA. IT IS LISTED BELOW. JUST CLICK ON THE LINK AND IT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE PAGE. I HOPE THIS SOLVES MOST OF YOUR PROBLEMS! IF YOU NEED HELP,REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217.

Communication error when uploading pictures on computer

I had the same problem. My problem was that there were more than 1,000 images stored on the memory card. Once I deleted some of the images from the camera memory card, I was able to download pictures again.
