You can only connect one external monitor through the docking station. The splitter you describe does not exist.

A docking station is an extension or addition of ports for a laptop computer. Plug your laptop's power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If there is no power going to your laptop from the docking station but it works when the power adapter is plugged into the wall, the docking station is bad and needs to be replaced. If you have an external monitor and it is not working, completely close the lid on the laptop so the image will move to the external monitor. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized and resetting the docking profile fails, update all drivers through Dell's support website and then re-dock the computer. Some of the software that runs the hardware may have become corrupted. Hope this helps

one monitor you have onto laptop, second monitor connect to laptop connector for external monitor and in menu Start - Settings - Setting panels - "Icon - Viewing" and for this dialog window select folder "Settings" and configure secondary monitor

you left out 2 facts when DID it last work ok on this LT.
never, last year , 2008 or what, my guess NEVER !
no OS stated, W7? what? and MUST MATCH !!! drivers !!!
facts the product is 100% dead now at HP, no support at all . period
they will just quip "legacy" sorry..

HP 15-r264dx does not have docking port, you have to use USB "dock" such as HP USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 docking stations.

page 6 shows it dont work on your PC.
so that 2 books that said that.
if does not mention OS, but 2006 we know is XP , never run XP ever.
there are rumors of hacks that can make it work but only no details.
for sure it must be a hardware match.
then you need drivers to run it, but if your OS is not XP
finding them now is very very hard.
only google can find them and I see ZERO

try to be more clear
does local LT screen work ok
does using a known directly connected screen (VGA)
on the LT you must turn on external screen using the fn hot key
the the external works,. do so, now
if both internal and external fail the LT is bad, guess, bad GPU chip
if only external fails, try a known working external screen
if that works your external is bad.
the docking is last, and if only it fails, then ITS BAD.

First, check if the needed drivers are installed, then, the same process like connecting an external VGA monitor...

when you connect external monitor to a laptop u get two options in the monitor section of graphic properties tab

1.) extended
2.) clone

it is clear from ur post that u are using extended view

try using clone mode then both laptop screen and external monitor will show the main screen


other method is to disable the laptop screen and just allow external monitor to work, in this case laptop screen shows nothing but external monitor shows main screen

yeah, you can set the display setting as extension display your DVI

Intel, ATI,Nvidia have tools also to set up,

i have ATI and use the ATI Catalyst tools and autodetect the monitors that i connected to my docking station, intel and nvidia also have this utility.

it depends on setting if u wanted the external monitor as CLONE monitor of your laptop or extension Monitor...

or they might have problem on DVI port of your docking station.

download and install the video utility ( must have .net installed before you install the utility)

the utility will detect your video ports (VGA,DVI,S-video)
