Ok, I have an LG 32" 1080p tv. It has a PS3 hooked up to it through an HDMI cable, the PS3 is set to 1080p and it looks like i have static on the television, this only happens when the PS3 is sending out a 1080p signal, when i change it to 1080i the static goes away. The static also goes away once you put a movie in as well. The static looks like when your cable signal is bad on your tv, not completely static, but some. I have tried 3 different HDMI cables, and all did the same thing except the $100 monster cable my friend let me use, and I really don't feel like spending that kind of money, does anybody have any ideas? Thanks!
It sounds like you're carrying interference to your TV. Try moving you station away from any power source. Make sure your hdmi cable is away from any power as well. This may also be a ground issue. Plug your ps3 power brick into a different outlet.

What type of connections are you using? HDMI? Component? Composite? What audio? HDMI? Optical Digital? Analog audio?
Are you saying you get video from the PS3, but it is in Black&White only? Is there an NTSC/PAL selector on the PS3? If so, it may be set wrong. Set to NTSC if you're in the United States.
if the ps3 is set to hdmi it will not work threw the av cables. you need to change the settings on the ps3 to use av cable. its mostly set to hdmi as factory setup .
if this is the first time you've hooked it up via HDMI then you have to go back to the old cables first. Hook those up to the old TV or the new one, then go to settings and switch to HDMI. It will give you 30 seconds to change the plugs again so you can view the HDMI. Then select ok. Hope this helps
Shelley, the fix for this is simple! Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds and the system will beep. This resets the video setting for your ps3 from HD too whatever the current cables are that you are using too hook up too the tv. This works on my PS3 which I just bought about 3 months ago and should work with the older ones.
Make sure the xbox display settings are not defulted to 480. Have you tried using the component hookup instead? Theres really not that big a difference in quality between the two if your settings are correct in the xbox display menu.
ok here's what you do. Hook up your ps3 to your hd via hdmi cable then turn the tv on first. Then turn the power on to your ps3 and switch tv to hdmi. wait a while then a screen should come up and you should see and screen where it says an hdmi device is connected do u want to accept theses settings say yes. sometimes the "handshake" doesn't happen properly. If u already know this or have tried this it could be that your tv needs a firmware update, happened to me.
I just bought my PS3 and noticed this exact problem, Go into your audiosettings click hdmi. then go to manual. Uncheck Dolby 5.1. save your settings. This fixed the static for me. Sony should fix thier 5.1 drivers
Have both the AV cables and hdmi cables hooked up from the tv to the
ps3. On the TV Menu goto the av station which is different from the
HDMi station...From the ps3 menu screen gotot settings then to video
and audio and select hdmi then back to the tv menu and select the hdmi
station and the ps3 main menu should be seen and you are all set
