Hi. The impeller plate in the bowl of my Homemaker HMWM6000 washing machine constantly comes loose and floats to the top of the washing. In all other respects the machine apparently works fine with no undue noises except when impeller loosens. Suprisingly good performer for approx 3yrs. Machine is kmart job (out of warranty). I can not find any manual or diagrams for it. Added spring washer to top of bolt leading through impeller plate into drive shaft(?) - no luck with that. I suspect the remedy is simple yet eludes me due to ignorance/stupidity. Possible remnants (disintegrated?) of a required? part found under the two washers on the shaft. I can't find clear diagrams to show me what the typical parts are with impeller arrangements. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.
On the top of the splined shaft that holds and turns that agitator, there is usually a locking tab on the bolt or washers. Check to see if there is a hole in the shaft for a castle nut to use a cotter pin. You can also use a locking nut on it. They have a nylon part that allows the thread to cut into it and it wont back out. Last you could use LOCTITE on the threads to keep the nut from coming off.

if its while filling may be water pressure try turning tap down (hot)

Usually, there is a bolt that holds the agitator on. If you remove the cap off the center of the agitator, you should find a bolt underneath that you can tighten back down. Adding a little thread lock to the bolt wont hurt.

Hi Brad. Thankyou for your resonse. No tab, hole, groove etc on this one to maintain connection. Your locking nut and Loctite suggestion very useful and I will investigate. Cheers.
