You have to use the TV remote to set the TV sound option to external. Look on TV setup menu for 'external output' or 'external speakers'.

Connecting samsung sound bar to sanyo fvm3982 tv

Here are steps to connect a Samsung soundbar to a Sanyo FVM3982 TV using an optical cable:
  1. Locate the Optical Out port on the back of the Sanyo TV. This port will be labeled "Optical Out" and is usually covered by a small protective cap.
  2. Remove the protective cap from the Optical Out port and plug in one end of the optical cable.
  3. Connect the other end of the optical cable to the Optical In port on the Samsung soundbar. This port may be labeled "Optical In" or "Toslink".
  4. Turn on both the TV and the soundbar.
  5. On the Sanyo TV, use the remote to navigate to the audio settings. Look for an option to set the audio output to "External Speakers", "External Audio", or "Optical Out". Select this option.
  6. Adjust the volume on the Samsung soundbar using its remote control.
Once these steps are completed, the sound from the TV should be played through the Samsung soundbar. If you encounter any issues or don't hear any sound, check to make sure that the soundbar is set to the correct input and that the volume is turned up. Additionally, make sure that both the TV and soundbar are properly connected and powered on.

I am trying to connect my tv without optical output to soundbar with optical output. Can a converter help and what kind?

If you want to connect a soundbar to the TV without HDMI or optical, you have two options: go high-tech with a wireless connection or mid-tech with 3.5 mm aux or RCA cables. You can also use an auxiliary device to convert coaxial cables to another type of connection.

WILL IT WORK ON A TV THATS NOT BLUETOOTH CAPABLE

Hi Mike,

The TV requires an audio output jack. Either an Optical, a stereo "RCA phono" type or a stereo 3.5mm "headphone" type jack with the appropriate cable to mate with the speaker's optical or RCA input jacks are needed.

Download the manual from the page linked below under "Manuals and Downloads" and read page 7 where the details of these connection can be seen.

Connect Sound Bar to TV (flatscreen - Proscan)

How about fiber optic cable or composite cables. I usually recommemd that people do either of these.
