Sharp LED TV 3 years old stays dark on left side of screen for about 10 minutes after it is turned on. What could be causing this?

TV eventually "warms" up and color is restored. Until the last couple of days this never happened. The dark side is always on the left of the screen and changes to color gradually from the outside in until the entire screen is OK.

This is a LCD TV not a plasma TV. It is DP46840 Sanyo 1080p HDTV

  • Jenny Holmes Dec 16, 2013

I do NOT know how the description changed to Sharp from Sanyo..... but this a Sanyo LCD TV, not a Sharp TV, not a plasma TV. Why does this keep on changing to something that I do not input?

SOURCE: I have a Sanyo DP42746 and it is about 3 years

For what it's worth, you can download the official Sanyo repair manual for this TV (DP42746) at http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/43343/sanyo_dp42746.html. I uploaded it here when I had the same issue with my TV last year.
The solution is almost always to replace the Power Board (Y-Main) and the Upper and Lower Y Buffers. The parts and costs (from Sanyo in July 2009) are listed below (NOTE: Sanyo will not ship these parts to anyone but a repair shop):
1. V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01200A, Alt Part # LJ41-02759A) - USD $139.00
2. Upper Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01202A, Alt Part # LJ41-02760) - USD $64.00
3. Lower Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01203A, Alt Part # LJ41-02761A) - USD $64.00

Sanyo charges USD $10.50 for shipping, which brings the total cost for parts to USD $277.50. From my research, a shop would probably charge between USD $500 and $700 to do this repair.
FYI - there is a class action lawsuit pending against Sanyo for this issue. The V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Boards fail VERY frequently in this TV due to overheating. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a 46 inch sanyo lcd 1080p that is only 2

I'm having the same problem with the same TV. I called around to repair shops and I guess it's fixable. Haven't taken it in yet but I was told it most likely is a bad module. But this seems to be a really common problem with this television

Hello; I am John at J. D. Electronics, Poland Maine. This problem is caused by a defective LCD panel. This part is very expensive! Aprox $ 1000.00 from Sanyo and less than $400.00 from Encompass Parts Inc.

My LED TV started displaying a darker area, about the top third of the screen about three weeks ago. Today it went black. What might be the problem?

This sounds like a heat build up in the TV set if not ventilated properly it causes the shading effect on the screen coating causing the dark area eventually it takes over the whole screen

My 32-inch lcd tv from sharp has no picture but audio works fine. No picture ever comes up, not even the "please wait" message. Whats going on?

My 3 year old Sharp LC-40C32U would start up fine but within a minute would go dark (audio continued fine). For a while I could turn the set off and on again and it would be fine, but over time this became less effective. My solution, which has worked for a week now, was to a) unplug the set's power cord; b) after 3 minutes plug it back in and turn the set on; c) on the remote hit MENU and slide over to SETUP (3 clicks to the right if the screen is dark) and one up to RESET; d) hit ENTER and follow the prompts. This puts the set in it's factory configuration so you will have to rescan for channels. Worked for me.

Dark shadow-like vertical streaks thru LCD screen (Sharp)

Hi, I have a Sony Grand Wega LCD Projection TV that has a blotted gray streak across the front of the screen. I only use a damp cloth to clean the window and that doesn't seem to help. It really shows up on light pictures and is unnoticed when the picture is a little darker. What can I do to fix this problem???

Screen goes dark

Man, there are a ton of people on here that are having problems with Polaroid LCDs. If your TV is that new, it is definitely going to be covered under warranty and I would call them and tell them what exactly is going on with the TV. Their Customer Service Hotline number is 1-800-605-5364. It's ridiculous that the TV is only a couple months old and already the picture is going out. You would think after spending all that money you would have a TV that would work great for years!! Hope this helps...

Lamp problem?

your picture processor is broken. we have the same tv, after 1 year problem started. we got a tv tech out and he looked at it and said it would cost $1800 to fix and this is after we bought a $400 bulb from sharp. this problem is in many of the same tv's of this exact model as we've invstigated and sharp is unwilling to help. there should be a classaction suit or recall for this exact tv.do not buy bulb , it will not work
