Not sure if this will help but mine sometimes make a loud noise as well and its usually due to hairs stuck UNDER the belt in the motor area. Get some sharp skinny scissors and long skinny pliers and get under that belt, cut the hairs and use the pliers to pull out those hairs. That noise is usually because too much hairs stuck under the thing that turns the belt and the belt cant spin so it makes a lot of noise. When i do this it solves the problem of noise, but eventually hairs will collect in there again and make the noise again so i just take the hairs out again and problem solved.

SOURCE: my dyson is making a loud horrible noise

Hi.

Check the brush roller can be moved by hand & that it is not snagging on something.
If it is difficult to rotate remove sole plate by turning the 3 plastic screws to unlock position lift plate off & clean brush roller & check you can turn it after this.
If brush roller is free to rotate the chances are the clutch is faulty & will need to be replaced.
Go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/
It has manuals that cover clutch replacing on all Dyson models.

Remove the bottom cover plate and rotate the brush by hand. Look for things that make noise like stones caught in the brush path, bad brush bearings, bad drive belt.

Does the whining noise come from the motor or the brush area?
If it's from the brush area, it's probably the belt. Check to be sure the belt is not worn. Sometimes belts will glass up and slip. Also, check to see if it is still completely on as it should be. You may need to replace the belt.

I woHope this helps, if it does, please place a vote for me. Thanks,

My dyson DC17 makes a loud noise when i tip the handle down to make the brush spin on the floor?

Loud noises are usually caused by worn belts, unbalanced roller brush or debris in the roller brush. Check these things. Here is a link to the belt you need:

I would try changing the belt. Even though the belt may look fine it can be stretched or worn and that can cause loud noises. You can get dyson belts here:
