Well you came to the right place

Here have a seat, and let me show you;

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) Here is a Bottom view of your laptop,

Bottom left corner shows the Battery has been removed.
Remove the large panel above it,

Looks to be 6 Philips head screws to remove.
The panel lifts up on the LEFT side. There are TABS extruded from this large panel, which go into the Base Enclosure, (Bottom Cover), on the Right side.

From what I can see, looking at the motherboard by itself; there are TWO ram memory slots,

Towards the Top you see the White processor socket. Upper corners are cut off, and there is a single screw in the top/middle.
Right above it are two white Ram Memory slots.

EACH ram memory slot will support (Use) 2GB of DDR2 at 667MHz.

2GB = Amount
DDR2 stands for DDR2 Sdram, and is it SO-DIMM to fit in a laptop.
667MHz stands for 667MegaHertz.
The frequency rate ('Speed') that the Ram Memory operates at.

The TOTAL amount of ram memory for the laptop is 4GB.
That means you can use two modules, ('Sticks') of DDR2 Sdram at 667MHz.
Or also stated as PC2-5300.

Just make SURE it is SO-DIMM, or you will be getting the larger DIMM ram memory used in a desktop computer.

Also;
Everywhere on the Ram Memory module, EXCEPT the gold plated contact pins at the Bottom; is the BODY.

The Body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.
Handle the Ram Memory module by the Body.
Refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins.

[WORK on a table. {Or workbench} DO NOT work on a bed, couch, or directly on a carpet floor! High areas of Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out, (Short Circuit) computer hardware components]

If you have two Ram Memory modules, one will be stacked on top of the other one. You remove the top one first, then access the bottom one.

To remove a ram memory module, simply ease the spring clips on either side -> OUT.
Out away from the Ram Memory module.
This action takes the 'Bumps' on the Spring Clips, out of the Side Notches on the Ram Memory module.

DO NOT get carried away. Just ease one spring clip out, then ease the other one out. You can bend the spring clips if you are too rough.
When both spring clip 'bumps' are out of the way, the Ram Memory module will spring up slightly.

Remove AT THAT ANGLE.

Slide the Ram Memory module out, at the same slight angle, (30 degrees?), that it just popped up to.

IF you lift the Ram Memory module straight up, you WILL damage the gold plated contact pins on the bottom of the Ram Memory module; and the contact pins in the Ram Memory slot.

To install a Ram Memory module, look at the location of the Locating Notch on the Bottom.
This aligns with a Locating Lug, in the bottom of the ram memory slot.
ONLY goes in one way.

Locating Notch aligned with Locating Lug, slide the Ram Memory module in, in the SAME slight angle it came out at.
Make sure the gold plated contact pins of the Ram Memory module, are well seated in the ram memory slot.

(Ram Memory module is pushed in tightly, in the Ram Memory slot)
Then press down on the tilted up side, until the spring clips lock in place.

IF, you are ONLY installing ONE Ram Memory module, it MUST go in Slot 1. Also known as DIMM 1.

The Processor (CPU) reads what is in Slot 1 -> F-I-R-S-T.

Know this;
If you are using the regular Windows XP Home, or Pro; it is the 32-bit version.
If it is the Windows XP Pro 64-bit version, it will state so.
Either on the body of the laptop, or go to System Properties.

[Left-click on Start > then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the drop down list ]

Windows Vista 64-bit will state so also.

Point?
IF you have a 32-bit Operating System, your laptop will ONLY recognize about 3.2 to 3.5GB of ram memory; if you have 4GB installed.

Takes a 64-bit Operating System to recognize all 4GB.

(1) flip the Notebook/Laptop PC over - see Fig.1 below
(2) find the memory cover - it really easy to find in this photo.

(4) Using proper anti-static/static control techniques, clip alligator clip or your anti-static wrist strap to a frame ground of the laptop at an I/O connector or frame ground under the HDD cover.
(5) carefully remove (2) old 256 MB SO-DIMM DDR333 memory modules.
Store old memory boards in the anti-static plastic baggie in which the new memory boards were shipped.
(6) install (2) new 1GB SO-DIMM DDR333 boards, for total of 2GB of system RAM.
(7) reassemble system, and boot OS (operating system).
The laptop's ROM BIOS will auto-detect the new RAM and begin a standard POST (Power-On Self Test).
(8) If OS is MSWindows, it will also auto-detect the new memory, and allocate it to application software.

The technology of the Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349 memory module is called
DDR333, meaning DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic RAM), at a memory bus speed of 333 MHz.
The Form Factor of the DDR memory card is SO-DIMM, which stands for Small Outline DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) (see photo).

Hi,
If the printer freezes or crashes at memory count or if the printer shows error Mem test failure replace DIMM or if the printer display is completely blank in that case obviuosly you can try reseating Mmeory Module.
However that doesn't fix the problem formatter board is faulty.
Need to get Formatter replaced.

try to see if that memory is supported with your motherboard. The memory has something to do with that problem.

take your old ram with you when you buy the new one, also you new to know if you new duel channal memory
or parity memory
or edo or non edo ram
most of the information will be provided by the vender of the computer. hp tell you everything it is , duel channel, edo, non edo, parity and non parity memory than take the information you have on hand to fry electonics store or online to egg head.
pay alot less for the same memory they were going to charge you and arm and leg for..

The only new hardware that you can install on that laptop is ram, and with a maximum of 80mb EDO you might be better off loading up a version of Linux that does not require a lot of memory. XP would be like molassas in January in Alaska. Vista would just not even get past the opening install screen.

all you have to do is go into the bios, do this by pressing F2 on boot up, when in the bios you need to look for "shared memory" or "graphics memory"
once you have chosen the shared memory you want save settings and exit by pressing F10, the pc will restart and the shared memory will be increased

Note: It is recommended that SPD memory DIMMs be used with the SE440BX-2 motherboard. However, the BIOS will allow the use of non-SPD DIMM memory.

So the max you can go is 3 x 256 MB.

From reviewing the manufacturers manual for that unit, I would have to agree that the maximum possible expansion memory you can install is 96mb. Here is the link to their users guide (pdf).

There you have it. Although unless you are able to find that specification of memory for cheap online, I would say it's not really worth it to invest in older ram with such slow bus speeds unless you definitely need it. Hope that helps.
