Magicjack problems All my incoming calls are long distance. I cant even buy a number with my area code.magicjack plus

Most likely your system has a firewall somewhere .
Could be the router. You need to log into the router and check TCP ports 5060 and 5061 are allowed in the firewall settings . ring your isp and ask them to help you get Voip incoming ports to work on your router for incoming Voip and tell them the device you are trying to use

The MagicJack service allows customers to place and receive phone calls through a computer instead of a traditional phone line. Unlike a landline, MagicJack allows people to select a state and area code for their personal number. Users can also customize a vanity number to make their contact information more memorable. If a customer moves to a new city or would like a different vanity number, he can quickly make this change from the MagicJack website. Step 1 Access your MagicJack online account (see link in the Resources section). Enter the phone number and password associated with the account, and press "Login."
Step 2 Select the "Phone Numbers" menu tab. Click the option labelled "View - Renew - Add." Choose "Add a Phone Number."
Step 3 Choose one of the listed options for the new number. Select "Vanity Number" if you wish to customize your phone number. Standard U.S. and Canadian number options are also available.
Step 4 Check the box marked "I elect to accept free outgoing service." This allows free outgoing calls to phones in the United States. MagicJack must ask this question for legal purposes. If you leave the box unchecked, the MagicJack service will only accept incoming calls.
Step 5 Confirm that you wish to change the MagicJack number. Click "I understand and would like to change my number." Select a state, area code and city for the new number.
Step 6 Press the "I Want to Choose..." button to set the last four digits of the number, or click "No Thanks. I want the last four digits assigned automatically" to receive a random number.
Step 7 Click the "Checkout" button. Fill out the requested payment information to complete the transaction. As of September 2012, the standard fee to change a MagicJack number is $10. Vanity numbers may require an additional fee.

You should be able to get a MagicJack number with the 925 area code. http://www.magicjack.com/action/areacodes?inpArea=&selCountry=USA&inpCountry=USA&selState=CA lists several Walnut Creek exchanges. These numbers probably weren't available when you initially signed up. Log into your MagicJack account at http://my.magicjack.com/ . Then click on the Phone Numbers tab then choose Add a Number. Select the U.S. Number option and then choose the 925 area code and the city prefix. You will have to pay a new phone number fee but you will be able to link this number to your MagicJack account soon after activation is complete.

You get to pick a number when you sign up for MJ service. It's not a guarantee that you will get something in your own area code or city or within the free service area to your other phones.

When I got mine, I had to get Detroit dial tone. I got to switch to Toledo, but even that's long distance to me. Just remember, you're saving so much money LOL

The caller has caller ID block placed on their acct/ this can interfere with sending sms messages to a phone that does not accept sms or voice calls from a line with caller id block/ I had cust resprond to a text with send new to area code plus 10 digit number/ success/ removed caller id block from service and had cust click *star 67 then area code plus 10 digit number/ if you choose to have your contacts entered with *82 area code plus 10 digit cell number you will get error 00107/ can not receive or respont to blocked calls particularly long distance/resolves iss/ I am a technical suport agent for sprint/ Happy Texting

So the number issue, the area code here on appleton Wisconsin is 920 but there are some cities that are still long distance in the 920 area code like Green Bay which is only 20 miles from here (GO PACKERS)

you probably got a number for a different city in the same area code, maybe they didnt have numbers for your city?

As for incoming calls, did you try resetting the phone? if so, call helio and tell them you want to reprogram the phone, they will send a programming code to the phone. Mine did this for 2 days when it was new, i called and they got it straight for me, if you still have the box, call the activations line and not customer service, you will get through faster.
