Depending on which model of Electrolux you have and how far out you have pulled out the cord (most of the Electrolux canisters have a yellow tape around the machine end of the cord to alert you not to pull it out any further), you might have to take it apart to fix it. However, the first thing that I would try would be to stand it on the end (the hose end at the top), and pull short jerks on the cord to see if it will correct itself and retract. If that does not fix it, I would stick a screwdriver in the hole where the cord comes out of the machine and attempt to wind the cord reel back up which will slowly wind the cord back up on the cordwinder. This usually cause the cord to wind back up. If that does not work, then the only option is to take the machine apart to fix it.

Our retractable cord is stuck. How do I fix this problem?

Hello, Elizabeth -

You may find the instructions here helpful in getting the cord to retract again:
https://www.hunker.com/13408865/how-to-repair-a-cord-rewind-in-a-vacuum-cleaner

This is a link to other instructions:
https://www.doityourself.com/stry/fixing-the-cord-reel-on-a-canister-vacuum

If you wish to post the make and mode of your vacuum cleaner, I or another volunteer Fixya answerer may be able to find repair instructions specifically for your model of vacuum cleaner. You can choose Comment and type the make and model in the Comment box.

Best wishes.

Bissell momentum canister vacuum retractable electrical cord not retracting

Either the cord inside is caught on something or the retraction spring is broken.
Try to pull it out further, if you can feel any spring-back then most likely the cord is caught, maybe on itself.
Either way, the canister will probably have to be disassembled to fix the problem.

VC248. Why won't the cord retract?

Vacuums today are most all plastic parts, and you have likely accidentally broken the retractor. Very highly likely you will be wrapping the cord around the machine from now on, as the repair parts are probably not available.
God bless your efforts.

The power cord does not retract or rewind when the button is pushed. How can I repair this?

Sometimes you can help get the springs working again, by gently pulling the cord out a little further and then let it slowly in while pushing the cord retract button.

The cord won't retract, how do I fix it?

Hold the vacuum at a nearly upright position. Gently tug and release the cord near the vacuum. This should cause the cord to retract. If not, it may be a worn out spring or a broken piece on the cordwinder. If this is the case, it needs to be taken to an Aerus Electrolux store for repairs.

Electric cord won't retract

Depends on the machine. If its a Sebo K model then usually pulling on the cord will re-automatically retract the cord anyway. Any other brand and it will need to be replaced by a qualified repair.
