Hello, I own a GE spectra xl44 self cleaning oven. recently my oven has started to smoke while cooking. I tried to use the self cleaner, however this only set off my fire alarm. I have cleaned all of the grease and food particals off the inside. However there seems to be some food particles located near the bottom burner that I can not get to. Any suggestions on how to clean this and not fill my house with smoke?

Most likely the oven ignitor is bad or weak.  You can look at it and see how it compares to the broil ignitor.  If you see a whitish color on the ignitor and if it doesn't fully glow then it needs to be replaced.

First--Look for a couple release levers around the bottom of the oven. You should remove the bottom and scrape the spilled grease off. If you can't remove it, clean off what you can before using a standard ovencleaner. It will still need to be washed well before firing it up.

Hi I have a older GE that the oven won't light. It is a gas range that is electric ignited. The top burners do work but the oven will not light. Is it pricey to have this fixed?

FIRST MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE GAS AT THE MAINS , THEN REMOVE THE ALL BUNERS AND GIVE THE TOP PORTION A GOOD CLEAN WITH WARM SOAPY WATER TO EXPOSE THE SCREWS WHEN LOCATED REMOVE THEM AND THE TOP THEN YOU NEED TO FIND THE IGNITE WIRE FOLLOW IT TO ITS SOURCE CHECKING FOR ANY BREAKS AND ALSO CHECK CONNECTIONS . GOOD LUCK .
