Go into the BIOS by turning on the laptop and pressing F2. In there i believe on the main screen you can change the time and date. Do that, save changes and exit and then go into windows and see if it keeps the right time and date.

Let me know how it goes.

Lock ibm bios 0271 error

You need a replacement battery for the CMOS system on your computer.

The CMOS system contains the BIOS settings configuration and also runs the real time clock. If the real time clock does not stay in sync, this can have a negative affect on your installed operating system ( for example, a windows computer will not allow ANY system updates if the difference between your system time date, and the update servers current time and date is offset for 24 hrs. or more)

Inspiron laptop clock occasionally reverts to July 2008

There is a small 3 volt battery on the motherboard which is the backup for the circuit clock .So if the battery has gone low in voltage the clock will be reset as the CMOS setting will be reset. The clock will then go back to the time of the laptop set-up which is in july 2008.
Replacing and then correcting the CMOS set- up on booting will set the clock to work to the current time/date.

The system clock will not stay set, when I turn off laptop the clock stops and calendar stops . I reset it every time I turn it back on so I receive all up to date updates . Windows updates are set to ...

You need to set the correct date and time in your system BIOS. To access that you need to press the correct key when the computer is first booted (usually DEL or F10/F2/F11).
Most computers will have a message stating press xx Key to enter setup or etc.
If this problem persists even after setting the correct time in your BIOS, your laptop needs a new CMOS battery. I recommend having a professional do this.

Your CMOS battery may be dead or dying, or just has been reset. It is a small watch-like battery that keeps track of the time and BIOS settings. Your BIOS settings may have been reset because the battery cannot hold enough of a charge to store the settings and time. Also, it could have just been manually reset in the BIOS settings. If you go into the BIOS settings, adjust your date and time, and the POST screen setting, and the settings stay that way, your battery is good and was just reset. If you change the settings and they reset again, you have a bad CMOS battery. If it is the battery and you need instructions to replace it, let me know.

Sony vaio vgn-fs775p laptop real time clock not keeping time

Hi

thank you for your query

If the time is not keeping up then it would seem that you will need to change your CMOS battery, this is a small battery found on the motherboard responsible for clocking etc

The battery is cheap to purchase, however I do highly recommned the laptop be booked into a reputable PC shop for replacement as you will need to take the whole laptop apart to get the motherboard

I hope this has been helpful

I need to find out where the time/date clock battery is located at

The battery is a "disc" battery on the motherboard. Open the access panel under the laptop. If you remove it, the CMOS BIOS settings may get reset to "the default" settings.
You may want to make note of the current settings.

Not keeping time

Go into the BIOS by pressing F2 when you first turn on the laptop. In the main screen you should be able to change the time and date. After you do that save the changes and exit and go into windows and see if the date and time is current.

Let me know how it goes.
