While listening to some music yesterday, the receiver suddenly just powered off. I noticed that the red led on the power button was in some kind of flash mode too. By hitting the power button on the receiver or remote, then the light goes out, but upon powering it on again the unit will come on as usual..... I will hear the click, the display will show the usual information briefly, but then it suddenly goes blank and the unit shuts off and the power button led goes back into flash mode. I have not made any recent changes to the setup of the unit, nor has it been moved from its current location for years, including speakers. I did find some information indicating that a speaker wire short could cause this problem, so I checked them and didn't find any issues. Matter fact I tried powering up the receiver with the speakers disconnected from the unit, and got the same results. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? Thanks

You may need to reset the microprocessor, the ownersmanual describes this process as Turn the Receiver OFF,UNPLUG the POWER CORD from the elecrical outlet,PLUG the RECEIVER back into the outlet while PRESSING and HOLDING hte POWER ON button, continue to HOLD the POWER BUTTON for a Second or two, Hope this works for you, if not a CLIPPING problem could be the source only if you set up new speakers or input source. GOOD LUCK

Check all your speaker wires for shorts, especially behind the amp, doesn't take much for something to throw a spanner in the works, like when cleaning house and moving stuff around.

The unit is overheating and the performance of the amplifier is degrading.
You will have to open the unit clean it thoroughly and inspect the components for the damage the overheating has caused - the electrolytic capacitors have started to dry out and it will have to be replaced, the soldering points in the power amplifier have started to go brittle and fail, the thermal paste and the cooler on the processor of the unit might have failed so the paste must be replaced and the cooler refitted...
All that requires at least a basic experience in electronics and a basic set of tools: soldering iron, several pastes, a few replacement capacitors. If you don't have them all you can do is to clean the unit with a vacuum thru the cooling vents or , better, open the case and clean them with a vacuum and a fine brush. For the rest you will have to take it to a repair shop.

If you've already disconnected the speakers then I suspect the fault is internal on the amplifier and the unit is shutting down to protect iteself.
The fault with most amplfiers can normally be traced to blown or leading capacitors (bulge on the top or liquid around base) which can be replaced for little cost if you've got the technical ability and equipment to desolder and resolder components on a PCB.
First thing to do would be to remove the cover and check the capacitors as detailed above.
