Intermatic T103 timer wired for 240V

I also have a T103, but it is wired for 240V. How should the clock be wired for 120V? Do I need to run a white neutral wire from the neutral in the electric box to the A terminal?

Yes u will, but u will have to make sure one of the motor wires are hooked up that way also, in case it has been moved, here is a link with the diagram u need

Pool timer

You have the T103 timer rated 120-240. The clock motor part of timer is 120Volt. This is a very versatile timer, but confusing for non-electrician and electrician alike.
Solve problem by converting timer from T103 to the 240V T104 by changing clock motor from 120V WG1570 to 240V WG1573.
Buy wg1573 clock motor at WW Grainger or drillspot etc.

How to wire a intermatic timer T104 240 v to a 120v?

T104 is 240volt timer.
Timer has terminals A 1 2 3 4
T-104 clock motor must receive 240Volts to operate.
Clock motor wires are white-colored and can be seen connected to terminals 1 and 3.

There are two work-arounds for using T104 for 120V.

1) Diagram 1 showing how to change wiring:

Move 240V clock motor wires to terminal 1 and A.
Connect 240V Hot leads to terminals 1 and A. This will power the 240V clock motor
Hot wire going to 120V load connects to terminal 2. This wire will be turned on each time timer turns on, and 120Volts will power the 120V load.
To complete 120V circuit, neutral wire that comes from neutral busbar in breaker box connects to 120V load.

To control additional 120Volt circuit, run jumper wire from terminal 1 to terminal 3.
Connect Hot to second load to terminal 4.

2) Second method is to change T104 timer into T103 timer:

WG1573 is a 240 Volt clock motor for T100 series timers.
This means you have T-104 timer.

T-103 has 120V clock motor with 5 terminals A 1 2 3 4
Tork 1101 has 120V clock motor with 4 terminals L 1 X 2

T103 is DPST and can control one-or-two 120Volt loads, or one-or-two 240Volt loads.
Tork 1101 is SPST can control one 120Volt load

Common ground between these timers one 120 Volt load
Changeover for one 120 Volt load:
White wires T103 terminal A go to Tork terminal X
Black wire T103 terminal 1 goes Tork terminals L and 1 (there is brass connector plate that connects L and 1 - if connector is missing, jumper between L and 1)
Black wire on T103 terminal 2 goes Tork terminal 2

If Load requirement is greater than T1101, Grainger sells T103 clock motor for $16

I having troble with my t103 timer to turn the lights on manualy i try to set the timer but for some reason doesn't work what can i do ???

T103 Intermatic timer has 120Volt clock motor and can control 120V or 240V Loads.
Wiring for timer is shown on following link:

Troubleshoot T103:
1) Manual override is working correctly, and it snaps crisp and clean, and Load turns on-and-off.
That means timer is basically good.

2) Next look to see if yellow dial is rotating.
If dial is not rotating, then 120Volt clock motor needs to be replaced.
Take photo of wiring and mark wires before starting.
Remove two white wires connected to screw terminals 1 and A.
Snap timer mechanism out of box, clock motor is on back of timer.
Use small star screwdriver to remove old clock motor.
Reattach white wires on terminals 1 and A, tighten screws very tight.
Reset current time: lift and rotate dial until current time lines up with silver pointer.

3) If dial is rotating, but gets stuck at certain times, or runs slow, then replace clock motor.

4) If dial is rotating, and trippers are attached to dial, but timer does not turn ON, then trippers are worn down and need to be replaced.

5) How Intermatic mechanical timers work:
Dial with ON-OFF trippers is rotated by clock motor.
Trippers on dial contact ON-OFF lever.
ON tripper pushes lever one direction.
OFF tripper pushes lever opposite direction.
Lever moves electrical contacts on back of timer that turn Load ON-OFF.
Manual override lever clicks back and forth with each ON-OFF action.

Are all t104 timers 220 volt?

Yes, all T104s are 240Volt since the clock motor is 240V

Maybe-bad news.

For a 240V installation, the correct timer is the T-104, not the T-103
This is because the T-103 clock motor is 120V, and requires additional neutral wire on terminal A
The T-104 clock motor is 240V, and requires only the two hot wires and does not require a neutral.

I suggest you exchange timers and get the T-104
Or run another wire to nearby 120V receptacle and connect Terminal A to the white wires in nearby receptacles. This will give you the neutral that is needed for the clock.
In the absence of a Neutral wire, you can work-around by connecting ground wire to Terminal A >>> but this is NOT Code. You might use the ground wire as a temporary work-around until running additional neutral wire.

How do I wire an intermatic t-103 timer switch

The T-103 has a 120Volt clock motor

From there, the wiring can go two directions depending on your Load voltage (load is the fan, light or motor that timer turns on-off)

When wiring the T-103, steps 1-2-3 are true for 120V or 240V installation:
1) A white Neutral wire is always connected to terminal A (Neutral wire connects to Neutral busbar in breaker box)
2) A black Hot wire is always connected to terminal 1 >> this hot wire can come from 120V or 240V breaker
3) Black wire going to Load (fan, light, motor) is always connected to terminal 2
The following step is true for 120V Load
4) if Load is 120V, then white wire from Load connects to terminal A
The following steps are true for 240V Load
5) Only the neutral wire connects to terminal A as described in (1
6) The second Black hot from breaker box (240V has 2 hot wires) connects to terminal 3
7) The second White going to Load connects to terminal 4

How do you wire a intermatic t103

I'm looking at the T-103 sitting here in my office.
Terminals are labeled: A 1 2 3 4
I have about 10 different Intermatic timers on the shelves & each is a bit different

The T103 has a 120Volt (or 110V) clock motor
You need a white Neutral wire to operate the T103 clock

120V: Let's say your Load (light, fan, pump) is 120V
The white Neutral from breaker box connects to Terminal A
The 120V black Hot wire from breaker box connects to Terminal 1
The black wire going to Load (fan, light, motor) connects to terminal 2
The white wire going to Load connects to terminal A along with the Neutral
Ground wires connects to green ground screw
If your wires from breaker and wires to load are wired in reverse, the timer will turn ON the Load but the timer will not shut the circuit OFF.
To test which wire is Hot and Neutral, look at explanation at bottom of page.

240V: Let's say your Load is 240 Volts (or 220 Volts)
The clock motor is still 120V so you still need a white Neutral wire connected on Terminal A
Now you have 2 Hot wires coming from breaker box
Hot wire 1 from breaker box connects to Terminal 1
Hot wire 2 from breaker box connects to Terminal 3
Wire 1 going to Load connects to Terminal 2
Wire 2 going to Load connects to Terminal 4
Ground wires connects to green ground screw

What if you don't have a Neutral wire and you are wiring a 240V circuit?
240V circuits normally have 2 hots and a ground, but no neutral
Buy the T-104 timer
The T-104 has a 240V clock motor
Wiring for the T-104 is exactly the same as 240V wiring shown above for T103 EXCEPT there is no Neutral on Terminal A, and Terminal A is bare

How to test which wire is Hot
Test requires wires with live electricity >>> this is not advisable without precaution
Stand on dry boards, do not touch anything metal, wear dry clothes, do not hold screwdriver in mouth, wear gloves, tape tester leads to wood sticks so hands are away from power
Remove wires from terminals
Separate wires so they can be tested
Turn on power
Test each wire to bare ground wire
Tester lights up on Hot wire(s)
If circuit is 120V, then there is only one Hot wire
If circuit is 240V, then 2 wires will test hot to ground >> these wires will be Hots 1 & 2
Test assumes circuit breaker is functioning normally.

How do you test for neutral?
If you have 120V line with only 1 hot wire, then one of the white wires will be Neutral?
Test Hot wire to each white wire
Tester lights up on neutral
