If Alex's comment didn't resolve your problem, check for dust inside the camera body and on the part of the lens that goes into the camera body. The highlight indicator he speaks of will show on the LCD screen, but should not show up on your final picture once downloaded from the camera. Since the optics on that end of the lens are smaller, they are more susceptible to dust and dirt. If there is dirt or dust inside the camera body and you are not familiar with how to clean it, same yourself some headaches and take it to a qualified camera shop. You can seriously damage the interior optics of your camera by attempting to clean it the wrong way.

Like a flashing blotch? It might be the "hot spot" indicator, in which case its nothing to worry about. It just highlights hotspots in your image.

I have had my Nikon D40 for about two years now, and it has always worked great. I always shoot in manual mode. Recently, when I am shooting, my camera will be working just fine, then all of a sudden the...

It sounds like you may have an intermittent electronics problem. Intermittent electronic failures can be very hard to troubleshoot. I recommend that you call Nikon and ask for a repair quote. There number is 1-800-NIKON-US (1-800-645-6687). The are open 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday.

My lens isn't focusing as fast as it use to and is noisy when focusing now. What could the problem be?

Assuming this is on a d40/d40x or similar camera without a motor in the body. What is happening is your lenses motor is wearing out and is no longer as functional as it once was.

I just purchased the Nikon 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX lens for my Nikon D40 on-line for a used camera store. I received it today and I don't think it works, but I wasn't sure. The zoom will...

You are correct. The lens is faulty and there's nothing you can do to fix it as it needs professional attention. Contact the seller immediately to try and get a return authorisation and refund.

I got some dots in every pictures i have taken and it's all on the same spot. what are these? is this a pixel problem? can it be fixed?

Not quite enough information for solve.

have you printed these pics and seen the spots?
whayt happens if you print it on a different printer.
Are these dots visible on the preview of the camera?

It could be moisture spot ore dirt inside ofthe camera or even the lense itself Sometimes bacteria will grow inside the lense.
Inspect the lens itself, as well as the mirror insie the camera to see if there is dirt or speck on them.

Can Nikon D60 work with 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G Zoom Nikkor

Yes, it will work just fine. I have this lens and my father has basically the same camera (D40) and it works just fine with this lens.

Nikon d40 all pictures are coming out red

What white balance mode are you using? Try changing it to Auto. Did you ever try to clean the sensor?

18-55mm lens won't zoom

DON'T TRY TO FIX THIS YOURSELF! You will only add to the damage. If your lens is in warranty, contact Nikon for instructions to get it repaired. If it is out of warranty, I would either pay Nikon for the repair or take it to a camera repair man.

make sure you are using lenses with built in motors. not all lens type work with the d40 as the camera does not have a motordrive in the body.

Old Lense and new camera

Here is a link to the lens limitations of the D40, same for the D40X:
http://www.popphoto.com/photonews/3543/update-to-nikon-d40-hands-on.html

The camera will not recognize the lens but you can take pictures setting speed and aperture manually. Since you see results after you take the picture, you can make adjustments to correct your exposure
