mine does a similar thing but it resets itself. if i leave it on for a long time it'll eventually let me play games again. sometimes it'll reset a few more times but it'll usually work for a while.

if it will not play just one type or only 1 game i woudl check the game itself. if it will not play say games or dvds but will play cds then your laser needs calibreation.
every DVD drive is "married" to the motherboard. They both have a special key that keeps them together. Without that key the motherboard will not accept the DVD drive and it won't be able to play games ever again. You can extract the key from you old DVD drive and "spoof" it to the new one. That's the only way it'll work.
this is a problem the microsoft has been working on ... remove any disc from the tray> unplug it from all power the plug it back in> open the disc tray .. leave it open for a little while like 10-15 seconds .. then put the game in and it should work .. if it does not however you have one of the defected disc trays and you'll need to get it repaired by microsoft .. i know its not what you want to hear but hey at least they will fix it free of charge =]
