Dell Printer 1720dn - Unable to reset drum counter..

Hi,
Last week, our dell 1720dn stopped printing. Printing statistics page shows the drum counter at 30500. So we replaced the drum (Serial # TJ987). Then i followed the instruction to reset the drum counter but that didnt work. Tried it like 100 times but no success. this is what i do: I open the front cover, Press & hold the cancel button untill all lights start flashing in a sequence and then i release the button and close the front cover. Then i print the device statistics page again...but it doesnt reset the counter to 0 infact increases the job count by 4 (4 statistics pages just printed) making it 30500+...

Secondly, When i open the printer ip address in internet explorer...that says drum and tonner are good....printer status = ready.....and if i print device settings page from that website...it prints which means there is no problem in network....but when i print from notepad or any other program a popup box appears which says "printer offline"......I tried the solution that says change ip address to static but that didnt work either......

My questions are:

1) How to reset the counter?

2) Do i have to press & hold the cancel button untill light STARTS flashing or shall i keep on holding the button untill the flashing stops (which by the way doesnt happen not for 3 minutes at least)?

3) How to bring the printer online?

4) Why this damn printer resetting thing has to be that complicated???

thanks
Shahid

P.S. sorry for the long post...

"Press & hold the cancel button untill all lights start flashing in a sequence and then i release the button and close the front cover." "DO NOT release the button, but continue to hold down it while you close the front cover.

Printer offline: Right click on your printer in the "Printers and Faxes" folder and "UN Check" use printer off line,

I have changed the toner on my dell 1720 it's still not printing well do i have to change my drum

The drum (photoconductor) places the toner onto the page.
If the drum is damaged the print quality will definetly be compromised

I replaced the Imaging Durm, but the light is still flashing w/ the error light. It's a Dell 1720dn Service Tag 25MS7D1

Did you reset the counter?
After you replace the imaging drum, you should reset the imaging drum's counter. To reset the counter, press and hold the Cancel button cancel_button_0.jpg until all lights flash in sequence.

I hope this helps.

Need to replace transfer roller dell 51110 do no have a new one but i need to print some more pages. Can i reset the printer in any way

The answer will be in the users guide or owners manual. I am assuming that your model is 5110CN You can get that here: Dell Documentation

Look for the section about replacing the drum or transfer roller. There will be a section about resetting the page or drum counter.

Good Luck!

Needed to change drum...so did that. Just changed

I am not sure what kind of printer this is, but see if there is a reset menu for the drum. also the manufacturer website might have some info on how to reset the drum counter.

Dell 1720 flashinf replace drum- error.

I believe this message is occur because the laser printer drum needs to be replaced, not the toner cartridge.

These are two different things. The part is a DELL 310-8710 Drum Unit. Just google DELL 1720N drum and you should be able to find one.

Dell 1720 flashinf replace drum- error.

The second link was the helpful information. Also, to cut through all of that --

If you need to reset the counter:

1. Remove drum kit with toner

2. Make sure all print jobs are flushed otherwise whatever has been sent and not printed will come spewing out.

3. Hold down CANCEL Button until all lights flash through.

4. Slide the drum kit and toner properly into the Printer.

done.

Try these.

Reset the Photoconductor Drum Counter
1. Turn off the power using the switch on the back of the printer.
2. Open the front door of the printer.
3. Hold Continue button down, power on the printer, and continue to holding Continue down until the LEDs begin to flash.
When the LEDs start to flash, release

4. Close the front door. Continue, Ready/Data, Toner Low and Load Paper LEDs should be lit.
5. Wait till the printer completes the POST process.
POST is complete when fan noise and rollers stops.
After POST wait for 5 seconds

This is the procedure resetting the counter.

Now only the

Two dell 1720dn printers with two different problems.

Call Dell and get the drum count reset instructions. They should tell people this info...but neglect to. :P

Dell 1720dn has gray streaks in printing

That green drum is the imaging drum, and it needs to be replaced. You can purchase directly from dell:

After-market replacements are available as well from a number of online sellers. A search on Google will provide many links.
