If you are using a wireless connection, your scanner will not work. I was told the printer does not have the capability to scan wirelessly....prints wirelessly, wont scan
Go into properties, hardware, inkjet mp500 properties again, updated driver, choose the 'let me choose' option, choose the 'let me pick...' option, choose Canon Inkjet MP500, NOT Canon MP500, install driver. When you press the scan button now, you should get a popup that lets you choose the scan option. I've been working on this forever and I'm so excited it works because no one at Canon was able to help!!

Your machine is compatible with Windows Vista. Uninstall whatever drivers you currently have installed, then download and install the drivers from this link. Be sure and also install the MP Navigator (listed under Software), which provides the scanner interface program.
Hi-- What you
have to do is uninstall everything for the Canon MP....then turn off
the printer...and UNPLUG the cable that connects the printer to your
computer. Now re-install both the software and the
drivers (go to the website to get an
updated driver & software at www.canon.com). Now, once that is
completed, turn the machine back on and plug in the cord that connects
the printer to your computer (this is when it automatically downloads
the driver needed for the software to work- MP navigator- and the
scanner) Hope this helps.
I've tried everything, it still says the following tank cannot be recognized... it's the pink cartridge...I only want to print in black and it won't work if any color cartridge is empty...this is ridiculous! PLC Help!
Me too, copy and works fine. When the printer starts up I can see that the scanner moves, the green light is there - all i can see is that maybe it is vista or that i didn't run the set up cd completely. But I put the instillation CD in again and went to http://www.canon.com.au/vista/ and downloaded their driver - now it works fine
