SOURCE: Rinnai tankless water heater code 12

12 - Flame Failure or Poor Ground

1. Immediate code 12 is usually a defective gas valve, power supply problem, or defective fan motor wiring harness.

2. If code 12 occurs after a few seconds it indicates that proper operation was established, but then stopped unexpectedly.

3. Verify that fuel is being supplied to the unit.

4. Check for proper electrical ground. Unit must use a grounded power supply.

5. Check for flue blockage on inlet or exhaust.

SOURCE: humming noise with my beckett burner

the beat i can do on this is an educated guess , it would be the pump or the pump motor bearings , but having said that i have also seen these make noise for years and not go out ,I have worked on oil burner about 35 years experience has taught me not to guess parts , so the advise i would give is to find the part and model numbers for the motor on the pump assembly and the pump try to find availability in your area , heating and cooling, hardware store ECT. and wait to see if becomes more defined or fails so you don't spend a fortune on parts you don't need ,**** make sure there are no oil ports on the pump motor bearings 9LITTLE OIL CAPS ECT OR PLASTIC PLUGS YOU CAN REMOVE TO OIL ) IF THERE IS PUT A COUPLE DROPS OF 3 IN 1 OIL AND SEE IF IT HELPS .

SOURCE: gas smell during startup of GE hot water heater

yes, provided there is no excessive build up. The gas and air mix must be right before the mixture will ignit. a household stove will do this each time it's turned on. That's why yhe igniter sparkk hits about three times before it lights. proper venting will confine any fumes to the cimbustion chamber to be carried out the exhaust. If the odor is strong then have the appliance checked for safety sake.

No running hot water in house.

These have a photoelectric eye , much the same as a motion sensor on an outside lamp, just pull this out, clean with a wet wipe, dry with a towel & replace, press the reset switch & your boiler should fire up producing lovely hot water

Water heater makes loud noise when burner is on

I would check the metal door on the bottom near the burner, sometimes they come loose and vibrate. If not that then I would suspect the chimney liner inside the tank, I have seen them corrode and start vibrating when the gas is running

New Rheem Fury Guardian System 50 gal water heater model 42V50-40F. Loud low humming or drone sound when in operation. What can this be?

Hi,
Is the noise when the water is running or when the burner is running???

If it is just the water then the noise often is the flow checks inside the tubes going to and from the heater...

If it is the burner, then the noise could be the gas going through the gas valve...a bit of moisture or dirt can sometimes cause noises...usulally will correct its self after a bit of time...no worry...

poping crackling sounds and such are common with mineral builsup in the bottom of the heater....
Flush the heater and get the dirt out....

sizzling noises sometimes happen from condensation dripping onto the burner....gain not a problem...

sometimes the gas properties will cause the gas to make noises when going through the gas orifice into the burner... usually this is air or a LP air mixture known as "citigas" that will burn like natural gas but really isn't and it will make noises such as your are describing...again no problem...

Ultimately the noise you hear is not a problem but can be irritaing if the heater is where you can hear it easily...

Feel free to comment back if you have any more questions...

Gas water heater: burner doesn't fire, replaced gas control valve

Hello,Don't worry about the rust flakes as every burner collects then and is normal. The new control should click. Please check incoming gas pressure supply 3.5"WC natural gas / 9"WC for LP.Check it at the piolt tube with a pressure dial meter,I assume the water temp now is cold.Did you change the thermocouple also as this provides the power to run the control?

My water heater have countinous loud sound?

There are several different things the sound could be. If it is a popping noise it could be from the sediment inside the water heater as it is heating. It could also be noise(bang) from the water pipes having excessive pressure. If the water heater is gas it could be the noise from the burner when in operation or gas regulator vibration. Need a better description of the noise to be more helpful.
