Try a CD lens cleaner[A disk with a little brush and a bottle of fluid. But be prepared for a new player - once the lasers goes its trash can time.
SOURCE: no sound to the in car speakers from my alpine cda-9827 cd player
What kind of car did you install this in? Did it have a factory radio in it? If I had to take a guess I would think that there is a factory amp that you may have hooked the blue wire from the alpine deck to. If this is the case when you switch to CD the alpine deck turns off the power to the power antenna lead(blue wire) and thus your factory amp. If this is the case hook the factory amp turn on to the blue and white wire and you should be good to go.

Make sure the Ipod is plugged into the AV input source. Then you may have to go through the menu to select AV1 or AV2 input. This should take care of the problem. Good luck

Chevy stock speakers are 8 ohm. You should change out the stock speakers. Or at least dissconnect the back speakers and see if cd player still overloads and shuts off.
SOURCE: on alpine cd3 9852 model,
My setup is the exact opisite here, my cd only turns my amp and subs on, and there's no response with fm mode
