SOURCE: mixers eating brass gear driven by motor pinon

Thats called a sacraficial gear because its brass which is a soft metal. This gear takes most of the strain but i think either a spacer is missing or the gears arent meshing correctly. The transmission assembly the shaft next to it make sure all the spacers/washers are there.Goto hobartcorp.com you will find an exploded parts breakdown.

SOURCE: Hobart A-200 mixer gets hot

I'd say you're most likely overloading the mixer. This mixer, and others similar in size, are frequently overloaded by people making pizza dough. If you are making dough, keep in mind the A-200's capacity is 9 lb. of 40% A.R. pizza dough, mixed for 5 minutes maximum. If you need to mix longer, the batch must be cut down even smaller, but I don't even know if you're mixing dough.

Try running the mixer unloaded (i.e. nothing in the bowl) for ten minutes or more and see if it gets hot. If it still gets hot, the motor's start circuit (varies depending upon age of the A-200; Hobart used numerous motors in the A-200 over the years, incorporating different starting circuits) most likely has problems. If it doesn't get hot when operating unloaded, then you're probably overheating the mixer by overloading it.

SOURCE: Braun Multimix Hand Mixer 220 Watt / 120 Volt --

Hi, my name is John I will do my best to assist you.

Knowing the model number of your mixer will be helpful in trying to locate an assembly diagram, and part info to better assist you. Please provide the model number.

General Suggestions

As you may be aware your mixer has a safety feature that disables functionality if the unit gets to hot due to overloading. If this may be a factor and you haven't already, unplug the mixer and let it rest for at least an hour and then try it again.

You mentioned that the motor is working but the attachments don't turn. Some mixers are equipped with an mechanism that will only allow drive from the motor to engage if the attachments are firmly locked in place. The problem may be here.

If the unit was overloaded, it is possible that the plastic gears were damaged. Unless I can locate an assembly diagram of your specific model I will be unable to give you more detailed information.

If you feel comfortable with a trial and error approach you could carefully disassemble the mixer for closer examination. Most mixers housings are held together by 4 or so screws. Be careful when separating the housing halves as some parts may disconnect, or detach. If you open it slowly and pay close attention you should be able to see how things are assembled, and understand how they are going to come apart. Make notes for reassembly.

If you find that the gears are damaged, you will most likely have to contact the manufacturer to locate replacement parts.

If you have more specific questions please post comments to this thread and I will endeavor to monitor new activity and respond as soon as possible. I recommend that you "bookmark", or "add to favorites" this page for your convenience.

My motor doesnt seem to go round freely

Does the beater shaft turn when there is no load? (bowl is empty) Or it will not turn at all?

It sounds like you have a stripped gear. Your mixer has a nylon/plastic gear inside the mixer and that is 99% of the time what goes wrong. You will want to open the mixer up and inspect all of the gears, but most likely you will need to replace the worm gear, part number W10112253.

Here at MendingShed.com we sell Genuine KitchenAid parts and the items can be found on our website.

Here is a link to that gear: http://www.mendingshed.com/kawormgear.html

You may also want to replace the grease and gearbox gasket while you have the mixer opened up.

We also have a service manual posted on our website which will aid in taking the mixer apart and putting it back together properly.

MY kitchen Aide mixer was running alittle rough /loud and now has stop completely. It is approx 24 years old and has never had any problems. It is hard to find a local repair [place. any suggestions

Two things you can do for a 24-year old machine:

1. Replace both motor brushes (Black large plastic Caps on each side
of the Moto Housing). Without these, the motor wouldn't even run.
2. Replace the Worm Gear (the cause of the Rough Loud noises)

Download a copy of the Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com for
your model KSM90.

Also don't forget to tighten all the screws inside the mixers and use
fresh Kitchenaid Grade Food Grease for all the gears.

I bought a used Hobart A200 20 quart stand mixer that hesitates or 'gets stuck' when mixing dough or other thick (hard to mix) material. When running without a load, or only a light load it doesn't stick...

First of all, I want to say that it is common for people to overload the A200 mixer when mixing dough. The owner's manual gives an extensive chart for various substances typical of what people may mix. Depending on the consistency of the dough, the maximum batch size varies, but as an example: 9 lbs. max with 40% absorption ratio thin pizza dough, 1st gear only, 5 minutes maximum mix time. I remember this particular batch size/specification because as a technician who works on these mixers frequently, I had a customer attempting to mix 20+ lbs. of that 40% pizza dough for much more than 5 minutes and didn't understand why the mixer would stall and why his mixer was so hot he could nearly cook eggs on it's transmission case. So, a word of caution (9 lbs. at 40% A.R. is approx. 7 lbs. flour, plus the water) about overloading these. If used to mix reasonable batches, they are excellent mixers and will last a lifetime (I regularly service 40-50 year old A200 model mixers that run very well).

If you don't hear any grinding when it's stalled (which would indicated stripped gears, damaged keys, etc. in the transmission) I would say you are overloading it. Many people want to say the motor is weak when the mixer stalls, but unless the motor has been repeatedly and severely overheated to the point of shorting some of the motor's windings, that's not the case. I suggest finding the recommended capacity chart from Hobart and abiding by it and you'll love your new mixer for years.

My kitchen aid mixer motor is running but the blades are not turning

jpa4 - If the motor's running but the mixer blade (agitator) won't turn, then you've had a mechanical failure in the transmission box or planetary gear assembly of your mixer. The inspection and troubleshooting of the transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, and then select Parts List file. You can check the page titled 'Case, Gearing & Planetary Unit, for the disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. It can be messy but gratifying. Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. Good hunting... I hope this helps - Howard, Burke, VA

My mixer is leaking oil. last time we made bread dough in it it sounded kind of rough. we figured wiyh the heavy load maybe that was the rteason for the noise. when we moved the mixer to clean it, there...

Leaking of oil in a stand mixer is not necessarily indicative of a large problem.

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.

Kitchenaid mixer not running

Robbie. Are you getting any sound when you hit to start knob, or is it just dead silence? If you have dead silence, then it is definitely a power issue, which means it a couple of things could be conspiring to make your mixer not run. It may be a bad controller assembly (the speed knob), or it could be the motor, but either way it's something you can check yourself.
I'd start with the controller assembly and inspect that first. It's possible a connection has come loose. Unfortunately whole controller assembly is on a little PC board filled with resistors, capacitors and diodes, which was not meant to be 'home fixed'. My 'expertise' ends at being able to recognize a resistor from a capacitor, but I don't get much deeper than that. A local small appliance repair shop should be able to determine if the controller assembly is functioning properly or not.
The next possibility would be with the motor itself, but electric motors are pretty simple mechanisms and generally don't fail.
If your getting 'noise' from the motor but the mixer won't turn, then you've had a mechanical failure in the transmission box or planetary gear assembly of your mixer. The inspection and troubleshooting of the transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. You want Part No. 8212278 Rev D for your mixer, which you can download from KA customer service.
I hope this helps! Howard, Burke, VA

Regarding the Sunbeam Mixmaster (model 2346): How do I remove the front cover of the mixer so that I may reallign or replace the beater gears?

Pry the beater release button out with a screwdriver. There are two screws underneath it and one under the motor housing between the the beater holes. This will allow you to remove the chrome front cover, but not the motor and drive assembly. Getting to the part that contains the gears requires complete disassembly of the mixer. It is not designed for service, and requires patience and a variety of tools to disassemble.

It has a metal worm gear and plastic drive gears. If the beaters are out of alignment, then one or both of the plastic gears are stripped and the mixer is junk. Repair plus shipping costs equals the price of a new mixer. This is the weak point of these mixers and a fundamental flaw in an otherwise robust and sturdy design. It is definitly not the same mixer *********** bought 30 years ago.
