The magnetron is overheating causing the thermal switch to switch off the system . The cause of the magnetron overheating could be of a dirty/faulty waveguide or magnetron.

SOURCE: Microwave keeps shutting off

The magnetron is overheating, tripping the thermostat, which shuts off all power until it cools down.

This is usually caused by a blocked air vent, failed internal cooling fan, or failing magnetron.

If it's out of warranty, I'm sure you'll find it's uneconomical to repair, even if you could get parts for this brand.

Good luck.

SOURCE: My Panasonic NN-L530BF Microwave Oven comes on for

Hi this ONLY ever happens when you have had a catastrophic failure inside the MW, usually the power supply and or the magnetron. Most often they are NOT an economic fix and replacement is the cheapest and best option, should you still wish to try to repair take it to a professional repairer and only first ask for a "Quote" and go from there.

Mcd990arb magic chef microwave buttons won’t work. It displays 3.5 and then cooks for 2:00 minutes. No button control.

I am pretty sure that is a very old microwave...for example it was original equipment on a 2005 Recreational Vehicle.

I am assuming you have been using that exact microwave for many years, so you are familiar with its use.

If it is constantly displaying "3.5" as you say and someone has not just partially input a Time and forgotten to Cancel the Input then it sounds like a printed circuit has gone bad...

I have a model #401-80089700. The inside wall next to the controls will get hot and the microwave will shut off. after it cools, the display comes back on and it will work until it get hot again. It

all units have a thermal fuse that stops operation when case over heats . try replacing the thermal fuse could be out of tolerance.. looking for an obstruction in the high voltage radiation ducting that could be obstructing the flow of high voltage radiation , or the defuser belt or motor is no good or slipping, also the cooling fan obstructed or failed. .. all above to be handled by a master or journey man teck. or tv repairman. A professional not an novice.

You have a bad inverter. Time to replace the unit. The inverters are expensive and its cheaper to replace the unit. Unless your microwave is under warranty, and you can have THEM pay for it. I would say you have at least a bad inverter, and possibly a bad magnetron too. Good Luck!!

Hey, my microwave turns on, allows me to set the time, but when i click the fan or heat it shuts off, and doesn't come back on; after a while if i unplug and plug it back in it starts working until i try...

Sounds like a faulty connection or short to me , you could also look out for a dry solder or burn out on the circuit board. Needless to say if you arent sure what your doing or looking for when I describe a dry solder it's a solder thats cracked & shorts out when your appliance heats up. But from what you say it sounds like the circuit board or a lose connection to me , unplug it leave it for a while before you try having a look if you descide your going to & make sure that you replace everything back as it was after all you don't want to cook the people on the outside just the food on the inside.

Ours magic chef 900W MCD990ARB completely stopped. We have it in our camper and everything on that end is fine. Checked the micro in a different outlet, still no go. Any suggestions?

Well if you are lucky it is an internal fuse. Open it up and look somewhere near where the cord comes into the unit. If it is not the fuse then I suggest you replace the whole thing.
I recently was attempting to repair one. The part cost $93, a new microwave costs that or less.

Have magic chef mcd990arb. it was zapped by power surge. what could have been damaged and it is worth repair

Well if it has been Zapped then usually it is only? the Power supply side of things, the Bridge Rectifier, Controller etc, especially if it wasn't actually "heating" at the time. But also it may have fried the Computer Chip, in the "Brain" of the microwave. These days though, it often costs more to repair than replace, and anyway I always say, if you fix it you still have a fixed thing that may have further problems, as things go. If it's new at least you can take it back.

The power is on; the time is right; the timer works.... but no heat. Help I used just the timer, and after that, it would not cook. It is only two years old (a built-in model.)

No heat can be a blown fuse inside the case, a shorted high voltage diode or a shorted stirrer bearing (a fan-like device mounted inside the metal waveguide near the area where the microwaves come into the cooking cavity).

Panasonic Model No. NN-S933BF Microwave Oven

No sorry the issue will be with eiher the inverter, the magnetron or the main timer board. There is a tracer signal that comunicates through these components and if it doesnt get to where it is supposed to go it wil just shut off, the big hint at that is the time interval. It is not something like a sensor heating up and causing a fault. it is not running long enough to get any thing hot it is in the electroincs. Too expoensive to repair, im sorry better to get a new one. Good Luck
