Generally this message occurs when using a generic toner cartridge that has the incorrect micro chip counter on it. Is the toner cartridge generic or genuine? In either case it needs to be returned for a credit or replacement.
Putting a genuine cartridge will rectify the problem i feel.

When the toner cartridge is exhausted or empty then the printer will not be able to print further documents or the prints will be veryfaint. You may be able to print a few more pages by removing the toner cartridge and shaking the toner cartridge in a horizontal position a few times and then placing it back into the printer. This will give you an opportunity to print a few more pages and give you time to purchase a new toner cartridge for your printer. A cheaper alternative is to purchase a re-manufactured toner cartridge for your mode l printer. A re-manufactured printer cartridge also replaces worn parts as well as refilling with toner powder.
