Do you see an option in the BIOS for SATA1 Controller Mode under Advanced? A screenshot of the BIOS screen would help

SOURCE: what's the difference between AHCI and IDE in

1.IDE is an old interface standard used for storage devices while AHCI is an application programming interface for the newer SATA interface.
2.Most SATA controllers allow you to choose between AHCI and IDE among other operation modes.
3.AHCI has advanced features like NCQ and hot plugging that is not available with IDE.
4.Switching from IDE to AHCI or vice versa after the operating system is installed can lead to problems.

Therefore, in BIOS, when you choose AHCI interface your HDD behaves like a SATA one and when you choose IDE it behaves like an IDE one.

SOURCE: what's the difference between AHCI and IDE in

AHCI is much smaller , faster and more compact size of circuitry embedded on motherboard. IDE is much bigger and older version of it. They are both specified for Hard drive and optical operation..

Can i just hook it up and run the disk wizard? or is there another formatting ,partitioning tool I should get?

Use Disk Wizard. No 3rd party tools are required at all.

Scenario: 1 Pipeline SATA. 1 Barracuda SATA. 1 IDE drive with current OS. Is this correct?
Just treat the Pipeline from the DVR as an extra drive by formatting it, and moving the files over. You then can remove the IDE and Pipeline for peace of mind, but the OS advance setup should give the option of all three drives for install destination.

Leaving the IDE drive should not affect your resources.

Hello, What is the largest hard drive I can upgrade too for my Biostar 330G? Can I use a SATA and install a IDE hard drive as my slave backup? Thank you. Remi

As I recall, this model has one IDE channel on, which typically powered an optical drive. The manufacturer claims that it supports one IDE drive, in theory, you could set the IDE HDD on the second connector of the IDE cable (secondary slave), however, it may be that the Bios will not recognize this.

My own thoughts would be, as this has 2 SATA ports, to leave the IDE connection alone and for the Optical drive and put another SATA HDD on the other SATA connector.

If you need to use the IDE drive, you can get an IDE to SATA adapter and that would enable you to use it connecetd to the SATA connector

As to capacity, I'd assume it would run any size of HDD

Hi! I am trying to fire up a Toshiba 2590X and think the on switch is to the right of the Windows button on the top row, right hand side, but nothing happens. The power green and orange lights are on. Help...

Remove the battery and see if it starts up fine, if not then try the following:

1. Unplug your charger cord.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds or longer
4. Now plug back in the power/charger cord.
5. Now put the battery back in.
6. See if it starts up now, laptops often get stuck in hibernate mode.

Gigabyte K8vm800M Motherboard Does Not Recognise Seagate SATA HDD

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. I REPLACE THE IDE HDD WITH SATA AND AFTER I BOOT IT SAYS NO HARDDISK. IT IS BECAUSE WINDOWS XP HAS NO BUILT IN SATA DRIVER.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS CHANGE YOUR HARDDISK TO IDE OR INTEGRATE A SATA DRIVER INTO YOUR XP (USE NLITE) OR USE THE FLOPPY DRIVE TO RUN SATA DRIVER ITS INCLUDED IN THE MOBO WHEN BUYING.

HDD both IDE or SATA 1 are not recognized

Unplugg the disk from motherboard and reboot your computer
Shut off the computer, connect the drive again and start up again.

If the problem continue, set the drive on your bios manually.

If after that the problem continue replace the disk.

Help me to install WinXP in a Gateway Laptop that came with SATA HDD

you have probably already fixed this but maybe others can find this a little helpful. i had to downgrade a gateway ma7 for one of my customers who had lost their recovery cd with vista on it. Their HD had gone bad.

The reason the XP installer says "no HD" is because the the drivers required by the gateways Sata controller (hd controller) are not preloaded on the xp install disc. The only way around this is to download the windows xp compatible sata drivers from gateways website and then slipstream them into a custon windows xp install cd. its actually not as difficult as it sounds. just download the sata driver, a slipstreaming program called nlite.

1 download and install nlite
2 put in your xp install cd, and run nlite, when nlite asks, browse to the i386 folder (your installation files)
3 you will have lots of options to choose from, but for this purpose, choose "add drivers" and select the location of the gateway drivers (c:\cabs\something) i think.
4 finish and burn the cd. then use it to install windows xp.

this little guide isnt step by step, but with a little trial and error you should get by

SATA configuration for MSI P965 Neo --- JMicron hell!

Hi,
Once you have loaded your main board drivers, configuration should be pretty much automatic.Personnally,I have my dvd drive on the standard IDE ribbon cable header, and 2 SATA HDD.One on each SATA header. After loading The mainboard Drivers,Windows did the rest.I haven't found any need to mess around with any BIOS settings at all.
I currently am using a Biostar P4M900 board, but I have dealt with MSI before, and they are pretty much the same deal.
