Connecting laptop audio to tv

I cannot connect my IBM Thinkpad to my Samsung LCD TV LE19R7 using the tv's onscreen menu, no matter what I try. The manual doesn't help much either.I am using a simple jack plug from the headphone socket to audio in on tv.The lead is fine as it works pc to dvd player to tv, but I can't get it to go direct.

Simple jack (red and white). Back of tv has red and white jacks inĀ ' AV in' and 'DVI in' (extension RGB). I can't work out which item on the menu to apply either, I thought I'd tried every combination!

I am having the same problem - using vlc player, connected to the flat screen perfectly - picture looks great. I am using the ipod connecting leads for sound, but nothing is happening - I was told that these would work - unfortunately they aren't! Any help??

I am using VGA and I can't hear any sound coming from the tv with my laptop connected to it. All I hear is sound coming from my laptop only. I noticed that my laptop has red and green jacks and my widescreen has red, yellow, and white jacks. What should I use to get tv sound. I also am going to be using a webcam to communicate.

I had the same issue with a thinkpad T61 which i was connecting using VGA and a audio jack going straqight from the headphone socket to the back of tv.
I had picture but no sound and i found that once connected the issue could be solved by rotating the projection setting on the laptop(Fn+F7). Basically switched back to laptop only display, then back to laptop and projector display again and teh sound just kicked in.
i think it's related to the projector setting on the laptop rather than an issue with the tv.

Is it a double sided audio jack? or is it simple audio jack plug to phono (usually red and white) jacks?

Right, heres where your problem is I think, for the red and white input sockets to work, the video signal has to be coming through the yellow video input because these only work when they are used together. To test if this is the case, use a video lead to connect a dvd player or video player to the yellow input on the back of the tv, then connect the audio jack from your computer toĀ the red and white sockets next to it, then change the input on your TV until the dvd player/video player comes on screen, now play something usingĀ media player on ur laptop and this should come through the tv speakers.Ā

My tv's audio function not working after using Roku. Tried several other input sources and unhooked roku. Still not working and popping sound coming fron tv speakers. What should I try.

I have a roku and a WD live and have not see this issue. How are you connecting the roku to the TV? What is the brand of TV. Can you reset the TV back to factory default via the TV's onscreen menu?
Also, how are you connecting the "other input sources" to the TV?

Connecting my laptop to my sansui 42" lcd tv via the hdmi cable, i get clear picture but no sound

Does your laptop feed sound through the HDMI connection? You may have to use the HDMI 1 jack on the HDLCD3200. Change the HDMI setting in the audio menu on the tv to DVI and run a seperate audio cord from the laptop to tv. I hope this is helpful

We have an ibm thinkpad and a samsung LCD. We have the video connector wire (which worked with our dell laptop on the pc input on the tv) but nothing comes up. Do you know what we should do?

i assume you've tried the fn keys and the laptop f* key that looks like an lcd/crt. if not, it may be the video settings on the new laptop, it may not support the proper resolution for the television. is this an hdmi cable?

To play laptop thru samsung tv I am attempting to play laptop movie thru tv. I have tried the rca y cable with 3.5 mm plug from headphones of laptop to red and white audio in on the samsung tv., no sound....

So you are connecting the laptop to the TV using VGA port of the TV, right? To get sound in the PC input mode, you need to use the PC audio input jack (green jack, mini 3.5mm jack) not the RED and White RCA audio input, they are for Composite Video AV inputs. That is how I have my laptop and TV setup to watch Netflix.

IBM R31 ThinkPad connecting to VISIO flat screen TV

So there are a few things you need to know, you will need a converter box from the Laptop to TV, but you would not need one for connecting your laptop to a monitor. These can be purchased online (ebay) or in stores.

Extended my monitor to a Vizio 37" LCD TV Echoed Sound

You have an HDMI connection on a Thinkpad T20???
Per definition, HDMI is supposed to send video and audio data from the TV to the PC -so, yes, it should work.

I say "should", because I tried to hook up my PC that way and I went back to a VGA connection (and sent the sound to an old stereo), because the resolution was awful.
I rather think that the audio cable is the culprit here - if the connectors are not fitting perfectly, they can create a lot of distortion.

Also check your audio settings on the PC (updated driver, settings not on maximum volume, etc.)

If you want to try HDMI, there is no need to get the ultra expensive "Monster" cable. Look here for an example.

How to connect IBM T61 to my Samsung LCD TV 40'' 3xHDMI

If you have an s-video port you will need to buy s-video cables and a separate audio cable for sound. With HDMI you will only need 1 cable for both video and sound. Just connect your s-video cable to your s-video output ( your laptops quick reference manual should show you where your s-video jack is at ) and the other end to the back of your LCD tv video input ( consult your lcd tv manual )
