Hi, I have a problem with my ibanez ew20ase preamp tuner, it was working fine yesterday, now today it doesn't turn on at all, I've tried new batteries but to no avail, also, when I amp it up, preamp works but pressing the tuner button doesn't do anything, not even muting the guitar. Can't find a solution to this anywhere. Thanks in advance, Graeme

I can't seem to find info on this preamp but, that sounds like a power supply problem, considering, the tuner is the part of the circuit that would need power. Volume and tone controls don't, unless they are active,(which I've never seen a reason for). I would try a new battery, because I think you left it on overnight, check the slot for corrosion or a loose wire or connection.

SOURCE: Hello, I have found that Ibanez

There is little data on the internet about this... However my AEL20E uses 2 AA cells. Some older ones may have used a 9 volt battery. Yours should use the 2 AA cells which go into the box right by the XLR output plug.

I've changed battery in isys+ pre amp on vintage vec500 and now tuner doesn't work (it is blinking green on note tuner no matter of tune and no note letters showing - blank screen)

Is the battery installed in correct polarity? If so- try rotate it in position to rub through potential corrosion.

Since it has a remote battery, it would not hurt to look at the installation to make sure no wires are broken. Especially the ground wire to the pickup.

It might also be a good idea to apply some contact cleaner to the output plug since it is in the power circuit. Cycle the plug in and out a few times to clean the contacts. Also some contact cleaner to the preamp controls would be useful.

Be aware some lubricants may contain silicone and that can interfere with wood finishes or repairs to the finish in the future.

Hi, My Ibanez AEL 20 has a preamp - tuner 5AEQ45F. Tuner works but there is no signal in output jack. Guitar is quite new, and the preamp hasn't been used before. Can I get a PCB schematic diagram...

Remember that while in tuner mode, the audio output is disabled. Try additional presses of the tuner button to see if the audio comes back on. Also verify the volume and EQ gains are turned up. Verify the battery is new.

Hi i recently bought a Takamine EG 260c G Series acoustic electric Guitar with TP-4T preamp installed in it. Now the problem is when i connect my guitar to an amplifier, the sound comes through it only...

That is working backwards from what it should be. I suspect a wiring error. Since this is a recent purchase, do NOT risk voiding your warranty. There isn't any real good documentation on the tuner.
I am not sure which tuner you have HOWEVER with one type, the FIRST press will turn on the tuner with the sound going out as well till the tuner goes off. The SECOND press silences the sound and is tuner only, the THIRD press turns off tuner and passes the sound. This is different than a lot of tuners and you will need to do three presses to restore sound instead of the usual two.

Hello,I am a guitar tech in Nanaimo,BC,Canada and have run into this problem before.Simply replace the Takamine output jack [where the guitar cord goes into] 3 screws and solder, and it will work fine again. The jack has a switching mechanism in it and when it fails it shorts the output out.The jack is available at most Takamine dealers or Allparts http://www.allparts.com/SearchResults.asp?searching=Y&sort=7&search=jack&show=20&page=5

I can't tell if your guitar has the battery check button or not. The LED usually only comes on when you press the button. It will also blink if your battery is low. If it has a built in tuner check to see if the display for it is working. If it is there is probably power to the preamp circuit. If the preamp circuit is working the next thing to check is the pickup itself. Make sure it is plugged in to the preamp inside the guitar. Pickups for these guitars are under the saddle. If you remove the saddle either accidently or deliberately you can disturb the pickup. They are fragile and the wire to them easily breaks. The other thing to check and is easier to get to is the output jack. If it is damaged there won't be any power provided to the preamp. They do this to prevent drain on your battery. When the guitar cord is unplugged there is a switch in the jack that disconnects the battery from the circuit. This might be your problem and it would be the first thing to check if there is no apparent power to the preamp. Hope this helps.
