Garage door light blinks but doesn't stay on

When the door opens the light blinks but then doesn't stay on. The sensors are aligned and everything else works fine. Does someone know what would cause the light to blink then turn off.

Three blinking lights & door won't close by Candi
(Winston-Salem, NC)
Garage door will not open and close with remotes. Three blinking lights occur when we try to close door. What does this mean? It is a Linear unit.

I will assume you mean that your garage door will open with your remote but will not close. It should close if you press and hold the wall control button until the door is fully closed.

If that is the case, the 3 blinking lights indicate that your garage door's infrared safety beams are not properly aligned.

1) Check that the operator has power. The green lights on the sender and receiver should be lit.

2) If the receiver's green light is on, but the red light is off, the receiver has power but is not detecting the infrared beam from the sender. The red light might flash when the beam is partially detected. This can be caused by
mis-alignment or something blocking the beam.

Adjust the safety beam sender and receiver while watching the receiver's red light (stay out of the beam while aligning it). When the red light stays on, the beam is aligned and your garage door should operate normally.

NOTE: If the receiver's red light remains off, check for:

1) Dirt on the receiver's lens,

2) Sunlight shining into the receiver's lens,

3) A short in the safety beam wiring (from staples or at the operator terminals).

My garage door opens and closes, just this past weekend i noticed that the light does not turn on when the garage door is being open or closed, i checked the light bulb if it was burned out but was not because i tired it on a lamp. is there a fuse or something simple that I'm overseeing?

Make shure your not using the new flouresent squiggly bulbs since their base make little or no contact on the light board on your machine , the design of the newer bulbs has a plastic collar around the base and does not allow for the bulb to be screwed in completely , if thats not the issue take off the panel that holds the light socket and check to see if the contacts behind it are securely plugged in , if thats not the issue then the light control that has a timer built in on the logic board side is bad and would have to be replaced, The logic board controls all functions of the opener including the lights so if all else fails you can replace the board fairly easily , you will be able to buy one cheap enough on Ebay ,just make shure that you buy the correct board for your opener , the part # for the board is on a label affixed to either the front or rear panel 1 Hope this helps you Sincerely Glenn

See if wattage makes any difference. The bulb may be too big. Or too small.

SOURCE: DOOR CLOSES MOST OF THE WAY AND THEN OPENS.

Hi. The sensor with the yellow light is telling you that it is miss-aligned, Usually it only takes getting bumped to knock them out of alignment.
I would slowly turn or adjust the positioning of the sensor.
The one with the yellow light should turn green when it is all the way in line so that the beam is completing it's path.

It's out of adjustment, so the sensor is looking at it like there is an object blocking the door from closing.
It's called the obstruction sensor.
It's there as a safety feature, so that the door doesn't come down and smash anything in the opening.

I hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: my panel in garage blinks on and off and I cannot

Most of the time, that means someone has accidentally activated the Remote Lock Out feature on the inside wall mounted door opener switch. Check your Owners Manual for instructions on how to deactivate this.

SOURCE: the garage Remote control was working normally at

It could be the garage door motor that is acting up. Try closing it with the button in the garage. If that's not the case, you may need a different garage door opener.

SOURCE: my garage door will open just fine, but when I try

Check the obstruction sensors and for anything blocking the doorway. If both sensors do not have the appropriate lights on, adjust them to get the beam across the doorway to the opposite sensor. (My units have amber and green lights on different sides. Both lights must be on.)

I hope this helps.

(we often get the sensors out of alignment when someone walks too close to the rail of the door. Weeds and bright sunshine can also interrupt the light beam.)

The light inside the garage blinks and the remotes will not open/shut the garage door. When you try to use remote the door opener on ceiling blinks. It is a craftsman brand, bought about 5 years ago.

Sounds like something may be blocking the sensors or they are out of alignment. There are two sensors attached the bottom of each track about 6 inches above the ground. There is usually a light on them that will light up when they are properly aligned to point directly into each other. This can be adjusted with a wrench, simply loosen each one slightly so you can move them and they will still stay in position, adjust them and then tighten them adequately so they will stay in place in case they are bumped. Be careful not to overtighten the nuts/bolts.

My garage door will not open. LED blinks 5 times, This happened this morning and still not opening. Lights will not turn on either. One of the sensors stays on all the time even when I took of from its...

Sensors are working properly. That is not your problem. The light blinking 5 times is sending the code for RPM sensor or motor overload. Most likely if it is doing this with the door closed it is a bad RPM sensor which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor.

We have a 3/4 hp Craftsman garage door opener that has stopped working. It opened fine, but will not close. The lights on the unit work but the Training Light is blinking.

If by training light you mean the LED next to the smart/learn button then this is normal if it is random blinking. Make sure your door sensors are properly aligned and pointing at one another. Each of them has a small light that should be lit and not blinking when they are aligned.

Mine does the same thing...

If the main light is flashing 10 times you have a door sensor problem. Might be the wiring to the sensors. Nothing else will cause this flashing of the main light.

My light on my craftsman garage door opener won't turn on

Unplug the unit from the power and take a small screwdriver and lift the center contact in the light sockets just a bit. This usually fixes the problem if you haven't had electrical surges or lightning.
