You can disassemble them, clean them and then replace them or just remove them completely. A complete kit of all the parts (including the double sided tape you are going to need if you take it apart) can be purchased for about $20. You can also have it fixed for you for about $45 total.

I have a "broken" A520 that needs a new LCD. I really don't want to spend another $90 to get it fixed so may be willing to sell it for parts. Let me know. I don't know about any guide for disassembly however.
