Lost left channel on my technics SL-D33 Right channel sounds good.Removed it from receiver and hooked up a Dual CS 528.Both channels work fine.
There's nothing wrong with the turntable then. It's your receiver that's the problem. In order to hear a magnetic cartridge it has to go via a pre-amp. It's this pre-amp that has failed in your receiver. It's only used by a turntable so wouldn't affect anything else. You should be able to trace this pre-amp by following the turntable socket wires. It will probably be a small IC that has failed. If you look up the number you should find it.

It doesn't really sound like this tech knew what he was doing. He probably connected the ground wire incorrectly. I would also suggest opening up the tonearm base section, and checking to see the work he did. Perhaps he did not solder the RCA leads correctly.
If all is good, then there are only 2 other things which may cause this... 1) Tonearm, 2) Cartridge. You'll have to check those 2 out.
FYI, I work on 1200s for a living, so I know these machines inside out.

Unfortunately, a turntable runs on a different frequency, and if there is no button at the back of your receiver to change the frequency setting on that channel, it wont give you any sound. the best bet is to go to your music store and purchase a small DJ mixer. connect that to your receiver, and run the turntable through your mixer. the mixer will have the neccesary flip switches and "ground" connections
SOURCE: Only one channel plays.
If you disconect the wires to the cartridge and with deck plugged in to the amp and switched on, you can touch the ends of the wires with your finger. Though there are four wires, only two should produce a buzz, one in the left, one in the right speakers. If you get a buzz in each channel, the rest of the unit is working fine and you have a faulty cartridge or a poor connection to it. If one channel remains dead, then you have a problem in the wires to your amp or an internal fault inside the deck. If internal I suggest you remove the bottom of the turntable and have a look around.
