Is there an inter-lock mechanism on the lid so that the auto-shutoff does not work if the lid is not closed? I recently had to take the flipper part of the lid apart to glue the small catch part of the mechanism. When I put it all back together, the catch worked fine, but now the auto-shutoff does not work. I used to observe this when the flipper lid was not closed.
It just has to do with a thermal cutoff that it got hot enough

When I repaired the flipper lid I also removed the screen to clean the pot with white vinegar. I boiled the water WITHOUT the screen filter in place it never did an automatic shutoff. After reading Julian's comment I tried it again with the screen in place and it worked perfectly! Thanks, much! Jack"
