SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1420 freeze at starting

This is an easy one.

You hard drive has DIED.

Call or chat with Dell tech support and get a replacement drive

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/chat/hardware_chat?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Since the system is less that a year old, you can request a replacement drive witht eh factory image on it too.

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1526 cannot communicate with battery

The diagnostic Error is a False positive you can ignore the diag error as the LCD is functional. If the battery is not recognized in the BIOS or you get an warning the AC adapter is not recognized, then you may have either a damaged AC adapter sensing pin (Fine wire in middle of ac adapter connection to Laptop) or a problem with the charging unit on the motherboard.

If the sensing pin is damaged or the ac adpater is not sending the right signal to the system, the battery charger will not work. SO if you have another Dell D series AC adapter, you can try it 1st. If the battery is 18 mos to 2 years old, you might see if it is IDs in BIOS and if it indicates battery state. Also the battery should have a test button and 5 LEDs on it. If the 1st 3rd and 5th LED flash the battery is bad. ANy any come on solid, then it is a % of charge, each LED = 20%

If you end up replacing hardware, then it will most likely be in this order:

AC Adapter, Battery, Motherboard

SOURCE: Will pass bios but then will not load windows

step 1. open up the case and locate your hard drive
step 2. carefully remove the cables and power to the hard drive and remove it
step 3. goto your local office depot, staples, walmart or radio shack and buy a nice new hard drive somewhere around 250 gigs should be plenty for you,
step 4. now that yopu have a nice new hard drive put it in the spot where your old hard drive was in the conputer and plug both cables back into the new hard drive, after this is done put your case back on and start the computer up with your windows cd in the cd rom drive and reinstall windows. :) hope this helps

I have A Dell 1720 when I unplug the ac I get a black screen but the laptop is steel running but if I goto safe mode the screen well come on. Replaced battery same problem.

You might have "Sleep mode" or "Blank screen" mode in "on battery status.
Right click on the desktop, click "personalize". Click "Screen Saver", click "Change power settings". Click "Choose when to turn off the display". You will find many options you want "on battery" or "Plugged in".
Hope this helps

My dell inspiron 1720 locks up frequently - this problem started just yesterday I've used CC Cleaner and tried to do a complete virus scan using Kaspersky software - computer locked up at 7% into the...

Hi,

Try running these scans in Safe Mode.

Keep pressing F8 on startup, and choose 'Safe Mode' from the list that appears.

If you still find it locking up during scans, you may have a hardware problem that needs fixing.

My dell inspiron 1720 keeps rebooting. Pressed

Yes. You'll need to replace the hard drive with that error code.

No matter you can't use that computer without replacing the hard drive.

If you have a warranty for the computer contact tech support for your dell, give them the error code you have
and they will immediately replace your hard drive.

Re seating the hard drive won't fix it.

Hope this helps!

Dell 1720 screen

If you can see the vertical lines during POST, try to check the vertical lines in BIOS. If the vertical lines are there in BIOS, the only thing you can do is to replace your LCD screen.

Distorted sound on my dell inspiron 1720

You probably need to reinstall the drivers for it. Visit your manufacturers website to download it.

Open up a browser and go to support.dell.com

Look for anything that says driver and download and click on it.

It will ask you to choose by several options, choose select by service tag. Your service tag can be found on a sticker underneath your laptop.

After you get to the page with the list of available downloads, look for audio, then download and install the one under that.

Hope this helps.
