Compressor gets very hot

The compressor has a start device that could be the problem. If you remove it it should not rattle if it does it is very likely the problem. If it doesn't rattle then it could be your compressor. Check the start device first. it is located directly on the side of the compressor. and is easy to remove and install anoter.

Model ffu213caw1: my freezer stopped cooling recently.there is power to the uniti hear a small click down near the compressor like it is trying to start and then it stops.compressor is warm to the touch...

Compressor is bad the clicking noise is the Start Relay/Overload is kicking on and off. compressor is warm because it's trying to start but can't Frigidaire is known for bad compressors. I don't think the Start Relay/Overload is bad because the compressor gets warm.

Freezer motor cuts in and out. Runs for about thirty seconds at a time. Now have red low temp light on and everything is defrosting. Sides of freezer used to be very warm and are now cold.

Good day,
Some kind of compressor problem. If it will run a true 30 seconds then it is either the start relay mounted on the side of the compressor hanging up and not releasing after the compressor starts or the main windings in the compressor are starting to short, causing the compressor to draw too much current followed by the protective overload shutting the compressor down.
The relay is pressed onto the compressor pins and can be removed.

A parts house should be able to test it for you. If bad, replace. If it tests good then the problem is internal to the compressor and would need the attention of a qualified tech.

P.S. If the unit is under 5 years of age, leave it alone and call for factory service. It may or may not be covered but if so it would be necessary to preserve the balance of the 5 year warranty.

Lights are on but compressor won't work. Less than 2 years old.No display on temp control.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back onand listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries tostart.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overloadrelay.

If the relay is ok the problem is the compressor which normally has a five year warranty.

I have a stand alone freezer model MFU17F3GW8 serial # WB11907298 my problem is that it does not get cold enough. what could be the problem?

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

Are the condenser coils on the back warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

evaporator coils are behind the rear cover inside the freezer at the bottom.
observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
Compressor or freon problem will require a repairman.

How to locate and replace defrost timer. Seems to stick in defrost mode.

Your unit is not a self defrosting freezer and consequently has no defrost timer. There are only four components required for cooling in your unit. The temperature control, behind the knob in the cabinet. The compressor at the back bottom. The start relay and overload in a box attached to the compressor. The run capacitor attached to the start relay. A failure of any of those will cause the compressor not to run.

Check the wall outlet to be sure you have power.

If the compressor IS running but not cooling, the compressor itself may be defective or the gas charge may have leaked out. Compressor and refrigeration problems are likely beyond your capabilities in terms of knowledge and equipment.

The temperature control may be tested by all connecting the wires of the control to ONE terminal after unplugging the freezer and marking down teh original locations of the wires. If the compressor runs and cools after this by-pass then change the control and return the wiring to the original locations.

If the above does not make the compressor run the next possibility is changing both the relay/overload assembly AND the run capacitor. If these fail to correct the problem you need a new compressor but you will likely NOT be able to return the parts replaced.

Good Luck

Compressor winding problem

A 3 PHASE COMPRESSOR THAT LOOSES A LEG WILL NOT RUN. SO BE SURE YOU HaVE all 3 legs and check the legs across to each other with your vom, and then to ground. any leg not showing up for the compressor wires may indicate you need a NEW CONTACTOR. Check this and see if you get the same readings.
