Hi fletch83.

this could be the tone arm bearings too tight, damaged or in need of a little oil.

i had a similar problem on my 1210, it kept jumping all the time, ruining my mixes! it turned out it was the bearings too tight.

unscrew the counter weight so that the arm hovers over the platter and move it to the centre with anti-skate on zero.

slowly turn the anti-skate round to three and the arm should move over to the arm rest smoothly,if it stops before the arm rest or isnt smooth theres your problem, loosen the bearing adjuster slightly and try the hover routine again until its as smooth as you can get it. it is possible,if the turntable has been transported without dust covers the bearings or the pin could be slightly damaged from knocks on the top of the tone arm assembly.

let me know how you get on or if you need any more help.

darren

I have tried the solution darren1975. The tonearm hovered smoothly to the arm rest. After the test I put the counter weight back to a setting that was heavy enough to not have the needle bounce around on the record and it still skips. Any other suggestions?

Turntable skips regularly

Once adjusted to the correct weight for the type of cartridge then the arm should only jump on a bad record. If it keeps on jumping then either there is something wrong with the platter, being warped or a bad matt. Or there is something in the mechanism that is causing the jumps. Either of these two causes is possible if it does it in the same position on two different records.

Record continously skips after 4 or 5 seconds.

You need to apply more pressure to the stylus. This is done by adjusting a weight on the other end of the arm. See your manual for more details.

My technics 1210 is giving out an un-balanced signal

Hi, most likely the cartridge is shot. If you have a second cart try that on the unit and see if it makes a difference. Other possible causes are the stylus tip is damaged on one side or the output cable or rca connections may be loose. Cheers John. Styluscity, com

Hello, I have a Technics HiFi system - I've had it for 10 years. The problem is that the CD player skips and jumps. I've tried cleaning the CDs but there are no scratches on them. I've also...

Its time to replace the optical unit ( lens ) of the CD player. Brace yourself the unit on some of those old players can cost more than a new DVD player.

Basically, have just bought 1210's mark 5's one of them, the tone arm makes the Brand New cartridge skip when it gets to certain points, its because the tone arm sort of swivels, like something is not...

i have this case now, i bought some mk2's. If u have a record that is single sided, put the side that dosent play on the slip matt, put the needle on it...add more weight if needed. it should stay where u put it, if it dosent...then it should be a case of moving the anti-skate, untill you are satisfied that it is not moving anymore. If u dont have a record like that, like i dont....i took the stylus off...and the slipmatt off...and let the cart run on the platter at 33, i hope it helps your problem, if i dosent then i would take it to a technician.

Sears Tape deck/Turn table skipping!

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps

I've seen this on technics turntables before. Try tightening the screw on the arm.

Pitch problems

You would need to calibrate them to each other. Not very difficult, but not that easy either.

I would suggest taking it to a service center, and ask them to calibrate the turntables to each other. It's a matter of adjusting VR302, which is located underneath the turntable platter. You'll also need a frequency counter or similar - which aren't cheap.
