Backstitch won't backstitch?

There could be a few reasons why your Singer Quantum 9960 is not backstitching. Here are a few things you can check: Stitch Length: Make sure that the stitch length is set to a longer length than zero. If the stitch length is set to zero, the machine will not backstitch. Tension: Check the tension on your machine. If the tension is too tight, the machine may not be able to backstitch. Needle Position: Make sure the needle is in the center position. If the needle is not in the center position, it may not be able to backstitch properly. Thread: Check that the thread is properly threaded through the machine and that it is not tangled or caught on anything. If none of these solutions work, you may need to take your machine to a repair technician to have it serviced.

Backstitch button on Janome MC 12000 doesn't work

Perhaps this will assist. There is a suggestion you may not have held down the reverse stitch button for the first 3 or four stitches but I can't make sense of that.

Why does upper thread snap when backstitching?

May be an issue with the feed dogs, or possibly a burr on the hook. Lay a peice of scrap material under the foot as if you were going to sew, remove needle, then run machine in reverse to see if it feeds material backwards as it should

Singer 4423 stuck on backstitch!

Is sewing machine set for buttonhole making? Sounds like it got "confused" in the process of a buttonhole revolution making a reverse stitch, and so you need to change adjustment settings top left, bottom right, remove extension table and turn feed dogs switch back left of machine to UP position.

Backstitch - I purchased my 3610 Husqvarna SewMach from Pawnbroker minus an operators manual, whereabouts do I find the button or lever to do backstitch? Appreciate yr earliest response

many of the Husquvarnas have a button in the middle of one of the knobs on front of machine, stitch length I think.

try this web page http://www.sewconsult.com/husqvarna/husqvarna_instruction_manuals.htm it lists a manual for a 3610 for sale a few models down. Not sure if this is your model and the image isn't too clear to see if this is where the knob is on this one.

Viking 190 sewing machine stuck on backstitch

Found the problem (s) with Viking stuck on backstitch!!!

Two problems:

A: machine is "gummed-up" form old grease.
Solution: degrease machine with a high quality degreaser.. I used a spray electrical degreaser from an automotive store. Turn the machine up-side-down to preform this!
Then relubricate machine. Use a high quality sweing machine lubricant! Also lubricate the inner parts with a qigh quality "Sewing machine" oil.

B: Found that the return spring from foreward to backward was tired.
Soultion: Replace with slightly stronger spring from local hardware store.

If you need pictures, I took very detailed pictures of the reverse mechanism and "return to forward" spring.
