The drivers for c540 and c640 are different.

My dell latitude c640 doesn't produce sound the sound ports for internal speakers are not active, then the pci modem drivers, Ethernet controller drivers, and video controller drivers are not available.

It worked for me, for the wireless drivers, I installed those for d520 as the ones for d510 didnt work.

Device manager problems
go to there web site and search for the drivers. ones you enter their web site on the colum of search type in the model of your dell laptop with the request for the drivers on it and press enter.

Go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag",(serial number) of the 820 laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell.
The PCI device, simple communications controller is your dial-up modem card.

PCI Communications driver is normally a modem. You can search the Support.dell.com driver database for a Vista driver for that model modem.
