SOURCE: inserting new drill bit

Assuming that it is this drill:

http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/schematic.cgi/blackdecker/7144-04_TYPE_4

You will need a chuck key - hopefully you have that with the drill. It's a little t-shaped bar with a cog on one end. You put it into the holes in the chuck (the part at the end which grps the bit) and turn anti-clockwise to open the jaws. Place a bit in the centre and then turn it clockwise to tighten. Tighten the bit using each of the three holes in the chuck and make sure you remove the chuck key before you use the drill - keep it safe!

SOURCE: HOW DO I LOOSEN A KEYLESS CHUCK TO REMOVE A DRILL

Keyless chucks normally have a knurled ring at the base of the chuck that you hold in one hand while turning the large knurled taper with the other. If the chuck has been overtightened, and you cant open like this, try using two stilson wrenches (Pipe wrenches) one on each of these parts. Use a soft cloth in the jaws to avoid damaging the knurling. You can also try some Q20 or similar into the chuck to help lubricate it.

SOURCE: My old black & decker power screw driver will

Black & Decker stopped doing battery packs for the older screwdrivers, like the 9018, some time ago so you cannot get them.

However you can still buy replacement NiCad, Sub C, 1.2v, tagged batteries that will do the job on the older 2.4v models as NiCad batteries for use in power tools are exempt under the European ban on importing NiCad batteries where used in power tools (Specific Exemption).

When you open up the screwdriver look at the positioning of the batteries and the tags/connectors and solder them together the same way.

So all you need is a soldering iron to join the centre tags together and then trim the end tags, top and bottom, to the width of the live/negative connectors and you have got a new battery pack.

It doesn't have to be pretty but after a small investment and a little effort it sure beats paying out £30 to £50 for a new screwdriver. I have done this for my older Black & Decker and Bosch screwdrivers which all work like new again.

Black & decker BD602 cordless drill

open the chuck up as wide as possible . At the bottom of the chuck you will see a Phillips headed screw . AS this is a left handed thread screw it will you to turn it as it screwing it in to undo it. This is a lock screw that stops the chick undoing when in the reverse direction mode Once it is out then use the key in the hole and teeth and hit the key sideways sharply to unscrew the chuck of the drive shaft. Replacement is the reverse procedure. Do not loose the screw as replacement part is not available unless you have a junked drill that you can get it from

I cannot get one screw out of the drill as I try to disassemble it. Any suggestions? It is the screw in the bottom above where the battery goes

You can take a drill bit around the same diameter as the head of the screw and drill the head out. It will get to a certain point and then break off. once you then seperate the housing you can take needle nose pliers and twist the rest of the screw out.

The part where you put the drill in is stuck open

What you want to do is hold the tip of the drill firmly with one hand and pull the trigger with the other make sure the drill is in reverse though.

Bit is stuck / jammed. Can't seem to loosen. Any ideas on how to fix?

If the chuck is too tight to get the bit out you can either put a glove on one hand grab the chuck and run the drill in the reverse direction or if that will not work use vise grips or a small pipe wrench on the chuck to loosen it but be sure to tape the pipe wrench or vise grips with a thin piece of duct tape so you don't gouge the drill chuck.

Power is low. How to charge it?

The pivot has to be in the straight position and the charger plugs in the joint (it's hidden in the bent position)
