SOURCE: The Hook Pinion Gear on my Elna Lotus ZZ is

Timing is not something I've ever tacked, always been happy to pass the machine to my fav SM guy and keep him working as I love my Elnas. You may find it easier to track down a SM technician experienced with Elnas to fit this part for you. Especially as they are small compact machines and having the right tools can be very helpful. Also he'd be able to tell you if some of the other parts are also ageing and should be replaced at the same time.

If you are in the US you could visit www.whitesewingcenter.com and check out some of the information there, you will find it helpfull and he also hires tools to make some repair tasks easier.

And finally, there are some service manuals available from www.arizonaexpressionz.com - not for this model but you may be able to get some help from the Stella ones, they are the models after the Lotus. The manuals will assume that you are a trained technician though but should give you some pointers.

Good luck with your Lotus.

Machine running reverse

Can you tell me which model Elna? Have you owned it for a long time, or is it a recent purchase? If it is an older machine, i.e. a little Lotus ZZ, or one of the Star Series, I suspect that your stitch knob has simply been turned the wrong way. I own a variety of Elnas, about 10 in total, so if you can be more specific about the machine, I may be able to give clear instructions.

Rotary hook machines

Yes it is a rotary machine. The foot you bought may not be the correct one for your machine. Mostly all machines are now horizontal rotary hook machines, but they don't necessarily fit ALL of those machines, it may be for a certain brand of machine.

Best bet is to bring your machine when you buy a foot so you can try it out.

My very old little elna lotus (not sure if zz or sp) has suddenly jammed solid with the needle down through a piece of material. I can't move the flywheel at tall and I can't free the materia

Try unscrewing the needle, and then pull up the plate, and sort outthe threads very carefully with a quikunpick. When starting to sew, have slightly longer threads, make sure they are behind the needle, and hold them in your left hand. Especially when sewing very fine fabric, start slowly until you are sure the threads are forming properly, then it's OK to speed up. Use your ears, if it doesn't sound right, stop immediately. If you are going to use fine slippery fabric, be sure to do a trial piece first, rather than muck up your project. Elna machines are lovely to use, I've had one for over 40 years, still in daily use. Oiled with one spot of oil each time I use it, fluff regularly cleaned from underneath with the little brush supplied.

How do you time an elna lotus sp

Maurice, I've found this image from the Supermatic service manual for timing adjustments, sorry, I don't know if the lotus is the same but it might give you some clues as to where the hook and needle need to be.
