Canon pixma mp500 gave a warning that the waste ink tank absorber was almost full, but I could still print. Yesterday, it gave the error Waste tank ink absorber full, and would not print another line. It would not even eject the print that was printing and left the paper in the printer. I have read several of the ways to clear the error code 5800, but have not been successful. There were no ink smudges or anything else marking the prints to indicate the Waste ink tank absorber was full. Not really a tank, just two or three foam pads on the bottom of the printer that need to be cleaned or replaced. Have to tear the printer completely down to replace. I believe it is a built in number of prints allowed before the message is given, say maybe 10,000. I don't believe it has anything to do at all with the waste ink absorber being full. It is a rip off. Please describe in detail how to reset error code 5800 and explain whether or not I will receive the same error the next time I try to print. This has been a good printer, but I am extremely unhappy with Canon at this point. Can you help me?
Printers are cheap buy a new one or look in a dumpster where university students live and have been throwing out junk cuz they are done with school.

This is the ink counter reset instructions:
1. Service mode: Menu->Scan->Copy->Scan( one at a time in sequence)
2.Select "test mode"
3.Select "(8) ETC
4.Select "(4) EEPROM CLEAR
5.Select "(1) INK COUNT
6. press the OK button
7. Press the STOP/RESET button(returns you to the TEST MODE sub-menu
8. Press the ON/OFF button (which resets the printer).
There you go.
