"ink absorber is almost full, contact service center" - what does this mean?

Inkjet printer has waste ink absorber inside, sponge alike. The function of waste ink absorber is to localize and keep waste ink safe inside the printer and does not harm the electrical parts.
Waste ink is produced from print head cleaning process and borderless printing. When capacity of the ink absorber raise to about 90% then warning message appears.
You need to bring your printer to the nearest service center to get waste ink absorber replaced.

Printer does not print

If you own a Canon printer and are looking at this article, chances are you just got the "Waste ink absorber is full" error, or something similar, and have no idea what it is or what the printer expects you to do. Unfortunately, or fortunately, you are not the only one with this problem and there are ways to solve it. If you call Canon support, they will promptly tell you to bring the printer for servicing, that doesn't help, however, when you have a report or resumé to print by tomorrow.
Firstly, it might be important to note that the waste ink absorber is a little pad that sits under the cartridge's "home" position and collects any loose ink that may be on the cartridge. This prevents smudges, so it's a good thing to have. Many ink jet printers have them, but as far as I know, only Canon PIXMA printers display an error when a certain internal counter suggests that the ink absorber may be full. If you've done a lot of printing, the ink absorber may actually be full and you might need to have it cleaned or replaced to ensure the best printing quality. However, if you haven't printed that much or you have and you just need to print something right this minute, there is a way to reset the counter and stop the error from showing up again. Until the counter reaches a certain unknown point, that is, in which case you'll have to repeat the procedure.
Unfortunately, the instructions for resetting the counter differ from printer to printer and again, as far as I can tell, are not mentioned in the manual. People have been able to figure out how to do it, however, and there are instructions online for many printers. Searching for your printer model and either "ink absorber" or "used ink tank" should provide you with a few links to check out. Almost all of them are pretty easy to follow, albeit contrived and not easily discoverable on your own. Once the counter is reset, you should be able to print again.
If the ink absorber pad in your Canon is indeed full, you might want to replace it. Having it serviced is generally not a good option, since it will likely cost almost as much as the original cost of the printer and is not covered under warranty, since it's considered normal wear and tear and not a defect. Canon will, however, sell you a new ink absorber that shouldn't be too hard to replace. The number to call, in the United States, is 732-521-7230, which is their New Jersey parts center. They are open Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 8:00pm EST and should be able to sell you a replacement. You can also try to clean the ink absorber on your Canon without replacement using tissue to absorb as much ink from the absorber as you can.

Printer says ''waste Ink absorber is full'' see service center

This is what the manual says: Ink used for cleaning is absorbed in a waste ink absorber placed in the machine. Press [OK] to cancel the error so that you can continue printing. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be done until the waste ink absorber is replaced.
Canon recommends to contact a Canon service representative as soon as possible.

Ink absorber is full

Hi ...

This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.

Please vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

I am getting a notice that my ink absorber is full and I need to replace it. My printer is a Canon Pixma IP1500. Can you help me with that.

The waste ink absorber is a little pad that sits under the cartridge's "home" position and collects any loose ink that may be on the cartridge. This prevents smudges, so it's a good thing to have. However, it may not even be a problems yet. The error is similar to a "service engine soon light" on a car and as far as I know, only Canon PIXMA printers display an error when a certain internal counter suggests that the ink absorber may be full.

However, I don't believe Canon makes ink absorbers for this model printer any longer and having it serviced is generally not a good option, since it will likely cost almost as much as the original cost of the printer and is not covered under warranty, since it's considered normal wear and tear and not a defect.

You do have some options:
  • You can try to clean the ink absorber on your Canon without replacement using tissue to absorb as much ink from the pad as you can, but again as this error is based on a counter, so you will have to ignore it once the pad is clean.
  • You can just ignore it until you start seeing smudges on the page. I know you can reset the counter. Unfortunately, the instructions for resetting the counter differ from printer to printer and again, are not mentioned in the manual.
  • You can try and get one from surplus stock at Canon their New Jersey parts center 732-521-7230. Then there is ebay, printer places, etc.
