There is power going to the unit....Lights turn on, however when start button is pushed nothing happens. What should I do? THanks!!!

right could be your belt,casrbon brushes if the motor has these which you will notice they will have a wire going to a small plastic part on either side of your motor it will have 2 of these if these are worn down to about 8ml they need replacing if your washer does not have carbon brushes than it will have a small circuit board called a module if this is faulty sometimes cheaper to replace your washer

The start button actuates a small switch on the control board. Pressing the start button hard enough can cause damage to the microswitch, and/or loosen its connection to the PC board. If you rock the start button with your finger (ie circular rubbing motion), that sometimes works. Better still, open her up, find the microswitch directly under the start button actuator, a plastic plunger that makes contact with the microswitch, and press the microswitch button directly. Try jiggling the microswitch itself while pressing in the button. If it comes on, then it's a bad solder joint.
