Not draining...hose clear

My dishwasher has been working great for years but stopped draining a few days ago. I have verified the drain hose is clear, air-gap is clear, hose from air-gap to garbage disposal is clear, and the knockout plug in the disposal has been correctly removed. My thinking is most likely the drain pump needs to be replaced. The dishwasher does make a slightly different sound than it used to when it enters the drain cycle. Anyone know of any other diagnosing I can do or other possible problems before I spend the money on a new drain pump? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response. I saw an article athttp://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance... that talks about testing the pump with a multimeter. Does that seem like a legitimate test?

Just to update, I got a used drain pump from a local used appliance store and that did the trick. It sure was satisfying to see that water start pumping.  Thanks for the input bluegreenash.

We have cleared the drain and removed the hose from the sink. Is there a pump that drains the water. We also made sure garbage disposal was clear and working properly. The drain in kitchen working fine also.

Miele dishwasher G 5023 SC has fault code F 179 can't find any answers on line can anyone help. It washes dishes ok. Fault appears at end of programme am thinking drain hose?

The F179 fault code on a Miele dishwasher usually indicates an issue with the drainage system. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
  1. Check the Drain Hose: Start by inspecting the drain hose for any kinks, clogs, or blockages. Ensure that the hose is properly connected and not damaged in any way. If you find any issues, clear the blockage or replace the hose if necessary.
  2. Clean the Filters: Remove and clean the filters inside the dishwasher. Accumulated debris in the filters can hinder proper drainage. Rinse the filters under running water to remove any food particles or residue.
  3. Check the Drain Pump: The drain pump is responsible for removing water from the dishwasher during the drain cycle. Make sure the drain pump is free of any obstructions. You can access the drain pump by removing the bottom panel of the dishwasher. If you find any debris or blockage, remove it carefully.
  4. Ensure Proper Installation: Verify that the dishwasher is installed correctly, including the drainage system. Ensure that the drain hose is properly connected to the drain pipe and that there is no obstruction in the plumbing system.
  5. Reset the Dishwasher: Try resetting the dishwasher by turning off the power at the circuit breaker for a few minutes. Then, turn the power back on and run a test cycle to see if the fault code clears.

Whirlpool dishwasher F8 E1 error

You have a blockage in the drain line someplace. If you have a garbage disposer, check to see that it is clear where the dishwasher connects to it. Also check and make sure that the drain hose is higher then the inlet to the disposer to prevent water draining back into the drain line from the disposer. If that's clear you have a blockage somewhere in the drainline. Best to unit from cabinet and check it

Dishwasher won't drain. I made sure the sink drain were clear I don't have a Air Gap. Is there a way to check the drain inside the disherwasher. It started a couple days ago

I would check for obstruction in the drain hose.Take the drain hose off the garbage disposer hold it as low as you can over a pan or bucket and see if the dishwasher will drain centrifugally. If it does I would assume the pump is bad or disconnected.Possibly a utensil jamming it.

F4 is typically related to a drainage problem. If the water is not draining from your dishwasher, verify the following: Verify that there is not a clog in the drain hose or air gap. This is typically the reason that a dishwasher won't drain and the clog is usually where the drain hose attaches to the garbage disposal or sink drain pipe. Remove the hose and clear any clogs, then reinstall. Verify that the pumps drain impeller is working. You can reach the impeller from inside the dishwasher after removing the lower rack, spray arm, and arm support. This typically involves removing a few screws. Once upper parts are removed, inspect the drain impeller, which pushes the water toward the drain port, for any cracks or missing blades. If the impeller is defective, the water will not drain properly and you would need to replace it. Inspect the sump area for any debris or broken glass that could be blocking any ports. Verify that the drain valve is working; many are controlled with an electric solenoid that opens the valve, sending the water to the drain. There is a chance that the solenoid or the diverting lever could be stuck which would prevent the water to drain. If so, try to free up the solenoid and lubricate the lever. Otherwise the solenoid or pump assembly may have to be replaced. Verify that the motor is turning/ working and verify that there is power to the motor. If the motor hums but doesn't turn, it may need to be replaced. Motors can get stuck if not used regularly. If the motor is defective, the water will not drain and you would need to replace it. There are ways to test the pump and motor with a multimeter. If you are not comfortable with doing this, you may want to have a plumber test it for you.

My Bosch dishwasher SHX46A05UC is not draining

If the water is not draining from your dishwasher, verify the following:

Verify that there is not a clog in the drain hose or air gap. This is typically the reason that a dishwasher won't drain and the clog is usually where the drain hose attaches to the garbage disposal or sink drain pipe. Remove the hose and clear any clogs, then reinstall.

Verify that water from the sink drain is not making it's way into the dishwasher. I would recommend creating a high loop in the dishwasher drain pipe, which is attached to the sink drain, under the sink. The high loop can be fastened to underneath the countertop. This will prevent any water from entering the dishwasher from the sink; it also prevents the dishwasher drain water from making it's way back into the dishwasher

If you are not comfortable with doing this, you may want to have a technician test it for you.

The dishwasher does not drain water

I had the same problem after a year of use. All the cycle sounded good except for the drain. I disconnected the drain hose with all turned off and only a small amount of water came out ( the inside pan was full ) I then stuck it to my mouth ( gross ) and nothing but back pressure. Another great heave and POW a wad of grease came out. In short by wife poured some fresh stock down the drain which backed into the drain pipe and cooled. Done.
