Refrigerator light stays on even when door is closed.

The switch that turns on the light is defective replace it.

There is a switch just inside the door in most on the roof of the fridge, make sure it is not damaged.

check to maker sure lights are going off when door is closed , if not it will get extreamly hot ibn refrigerator and cause lights to go off and stay off til cool,

Check all the screws for the hinge and be sure the door is lining up properly.

Switch is bad on the refrigerator.

Check the door switch. Alot of the time when the freezer door stays open it creates condensation and than when you close the door is can freeze the door switch closed so the switch thinks that the door is always closed. The answer to your question is no,your refridgerator will not over heat. If you don't want to replace door switch you should be able to remove bulbs to shut off lights. I would try working door switch several times to see if it's just not closing all the way. Hope this helps. Thanks

HI. The door switch will be the culprit here.

The interior light in most refrigerators, and the fan in some, are controlled by a door switch. When the door is closed, the switch is depressed and the interior light goes off and the fan resumes normal operation. If the door is misaligned or the switch malfunctions, the refrigerator may become warm as a result of the non-operation of the evaporator fan and the heat generated by the interior light. Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to zero when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals depress the switch, the reading should change back to infinity. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.

The GE GSL22JFPH refrigerator door gets lower over time. When it gets low enough the light stays on when the door closes. There is a vertical bolt along the hinge line. Push down the hinged plastic "hinge cover" under the door right on the hinge line and you can get a wrench on the bolt to raise the door. I have to do this every 6 months/
