I can't find the instruction manual and forgot how to program a greeting
Does anybody know how to program the ATT answer machine phone #1855? I have lost my manual and can't seem to figure out how to program the machine-incoming voice message or anything for that matter.
If someone knows how to do this, I would greatly appreciate the info.
And/or if you know how I can access a manual, that would be great. I have searched the net, but to no avail re: the manual.
Thank you so much,
KK

It's not in the manual for the good reason that the AT&T 992 isn't an answering machine. If you want to record an outgoing voicemail greeting, you'll have to do it on the voicemail system, not on the phone. If you need instructions on how to do that, you'll have to tell us the make and model of the voicemail system or answering machine.
The feature setup instructions are on page 2 of the manual at

First, ascertain that telephone functionalities are attainable with familiarising practicalities. Attempting to make calls makes improvements where user guides only makes an initial recognition to features. User guides has resources where malfunctions are restoreable with references materials from devices features. Requesting user guide from the device manufacturer is attainable to compliment the network telecommunictions experiences. Observe the devices brand models to make requests from the internetwork sites.
Press and hold down the SKIP/ANNOUNCE button. Begin recording when the letter A appears in the message window at a distance of 9 inches from the phone. To end recording, release the SKIP/ANNOUNCE button. The out going message just recorded will be played back. I have included a link where you can download the manual.
Follow the instructions in the "Record your announcement" section on page 5 of the manual. You can download the manual at

If you're talking about the voicemail system provided by your local telephone company, each will be different, but my ATT UVerse voicemail is controlled at http://www.att.com/uversecentral and then click My Account, My Services, U-verse Voice Home Page. Hopefully ATT doesn't shuffle around the menus by the time you read this. This is correct as of Dec 2010.
wow, no one has posted a response for this poor sap. I don't know what to do, but someone should at least post some insight!
Personally, I think it may be a power issue, as possibly the current going to the phone is not stable, so it is interfering with the machine's abilities to listen for someone else picking up on the other end.
i need the instructions
