My 9.9 Evinrude outboard will not start. It is electric start. There is noting when I turn the key. I checked the battery even swapped it for a new one. Still nothing.

Will it rope start? Do you hear the solenoid engage at least? If it rope starts, recheck all electrical connections. They need to be clean. corrosion can interrupt circuit. Then check solenoid, finally starter motor.

How i thread my pull cord on my 6.0 HP outboard evinrude

How old? If it is the old system that looks like a spiral ramp, very carefully. I knot one end, feed it into the hole at the top and then feed it around without taking apart the starter. The spring is a pain to work with.

15 hp crysler outboard motor pull start diagram

You will need a special tool to do that job. It is just a 10/24 long bolt bent to form a crank and a nut spun on it and soldered or double nutted to keep it in place.

Remove the top slotted bolt and replace it with the tool.

Release the pressure on the cross pin by back winding the spring- and remove the cross pin.

The starter gear will slide up the shaft after you remove the flywheel. Or you can loosen the 2 screws on the top bracket.

Now release the tension on the spring and pull the core from the spool.

The spool comes out and the rope must be freed from the guide.

The reverse is about the same- feed the cord and spool it up attach the handle.

Replace the top bracket if you removed it. Put on the starter gear

grease the spring with light grease inspect the nylon base and coil anchor (tiny brass cinch squeezed on to the stub of spring coming from the base.

Now -with the tool- wind the spring backward about 5 times and insert the pin thru the gear and into the shaft. With the tool in place pull the starter thru several times to see if the tension is right and you didn't forget the rope guide..

Replace the original screw to hold the pin in place.

This works for most pop-up starters.

How do i remove starter on 2001 ford f350 dually (7.3 l powerstroke)

Starter

Removal & Installation 1. Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Remove the starter terminal cover.
4. Remove the terminal nut and separate the battery starter cable from the starter motor.
5. Disconnect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
ø To disconnect the hard-shell connector from the solenoid (S) terminal, grasp the plastic shell and pull off; do not pull on the wire. Pull straight off to prevent damage to the connector and (S) terminal.
6. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.
7. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.
To Install:
8. Place the starter motor in position and install the starter motor retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm).
9. Install the battery starter cable and a terminal nut to the starter motor. Tighten the terminal nuts to 79 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
10. Connect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
11. Install the starter solenoid safety cap. If equipped.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Connect the positive and negative battery cables.
14. Start the engine several times to check starter motor operation
