I got this TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment. Here is the Link to the REPAIR GUIDE. http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html

Might be able to mitigate problem temporarily by adjusting
the red screen control......but I tend to agree - red CRT bad
Replacement cost 600-700.00............T.

This problem is apparently occurs in 2 cases 1)Exposure of the screen to stron magnetic fields This can be solved by degaussing(if this feature is there in your tv)Otherwise u can drop into a seervice center and it will be fixed in a jiffy. 2)Due to the presence of a dry solder(Loose contact) If you think you can try opening your tv and attempt to spot it. Otherwise just drop into the nearest service center..U can locate by clicking on the link below http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/

He is trying to rip your pocket..!
There seems to be a problem with the crt driver boards, or a bad
capacitor in the sweep power supply that supplys the screen voltage to
those boards, or a problem with the RGB section of the video jungle IC
or ita associated componets. This is a hard call with out first getting
a print(schematic diagram) and while its cold, look at the voltages and
waveforms. Not a job for the consumer, but a trained tech should be
able to handle this..I suggest you do not go to your local service man..Give it for repair in a sony service center..No way it wil cost you that much..

Brand new 47" "Edge Lit" LED, model MV4(Cant

I believe there may be another setting, it has to do with auto contrast which can make the TV seems to have high contrast ratio but sometime it does not work right, espically on the scene with dark sky with stars, someitme it will will reduce the brightness to make black real black and you can loger see the stars in the scene. I forget the name of this setting, it may be in the user manual. Do you see that in TV HD mode in other movies with a lot of dark scenes?

Brightness and dark scene problems

you need to check your picture menu to verify you contrast is at max and brightness level is at approx 55% . if good , call for service and have htem check the setting on the screen controls. sometime they drift with heat, cold and age. when this happens, they usually have to reset the grey scale (black and white content) of the picture. Beyond that could be a defective red crt drive pcb or red crt or small signal panel.

Red picture tube needs screen voltage adjust. Open fornt or back of TV and look for a black square looking box with adjustment knobs. Look for red screen adj and slowly turn rt or lft until lines just disappear. If screen goes too bright tv will shut down, just turn back on again and retry

Black scene frame

i think you have changed the screen into other mode so that you are unable to see the recording picture there will be a switch to change the mode at the back of the cam or at the right of the cam.

Brightness of picture

If you feel good about opening your set then you can try this: Look for the flyback (high voltage) transformer, with the thick red wire which goes to the top of the picture tube. There are 2 controls on the flyback transformer, focus (top) and screen (bottom)Turn the brightness and contrast all the way down and then increase the screen control until you see retrace lines, and then back it down until those lines just vanish. Return the brightness and contrast to normal and adjust the focus control, if necessary, for a nice sharp picture. Let me know if that brings your brightness back.
